A method for improving disease diagnosis using contrast enhancement presentation comprising: providing an input digital diagnostic image; applying a decomposition filter bank to the input digital diagnostic image; constructing a tone scale curve from the input digital diagnostic image; applying said tone scale curve to the input digital diagnostic image to produce a tone-scaled image; applying a decomposition filter bank to the tone-scaled image; generating the contrast weight control signals from the input digital diagnostic image by extracting the high contrast edge signals at the coarse scale; adjusting the decomposition outputs from both the input image and the tone-scaled image according to the contrast weight control signals; and applying a reconstruction filter bank to the adjusted signals to produce a contrast enhancement presentation output image.

A method for enhancing the image contrast of digital portal images for presentation on an output medium comprising: providing an input digital portal image having radiation and collimation fields; locating and labeling said radiation and collimation fields to produce labeled radiation and labeled collimation field images; designing a tone scale curve to display the image inside the radiation field using the full dynamic range of the output medium; applying said tone scale curve to the input digital portal image to produce a tone-scaled radiation field image; designing a tone scale curve to display the image outside the radiation field using the full dynamic range of said output medium; applying said tone scale curve to the input digital portal image to produce a tone-scaled collimation field image; enhancing the image contrast of said tone-scaled radiation field image and said tone-scaled collimation field image; combining said enhanced images using the labeled radiation and collimation field images; and black-surrounding the collimation field to produce a contrast enhancement output image which can be presented on said output medium.

Method for contrast-enhancement of digital portal images

A method for automatically locating instances of a specified image structure in digital images, comprising the steps of: providing a digital image; detecting simple features associated with the specified image structure in the digital image; for each detected feature, searching, in its spatial neighborhood, for a second or a plural of other features associated with the specified image structure; for each pair of plural of features detected, using an eigenvector classifier to distinguish the wanted features and the unwanted features by matching the eigenvector representation that is constructed from a set of training profiles; and labeling those image regions that are found to be consistent with the specified image structure in the classifying step.

Method for automatically locating an image pattern in digital images using eigenvector analysis

A method of automatically compressing and decompressing a digital image that is comprised of the following steps: acquiring a digital image through an image acquisition system; generating a look-up-table (companding function) based upon noise characteristics of the image acquisition system; applying the companding function to the image; processing the image using a lossless compression algorithm; reconstructing the image using the associated decompression algorithm; and applying the inverse of the companding function to the image.

Method for statistically lossless compression of digital projection radiographic images

A method for automatically locating instances of a target pattern in digital images, comprising the steps of: providing a digital image; detecting a first simple feature associated with the target patterns in the digital image; for each detected feature, searching, in its spatial neighborhood, a second or a plural of other features associated with the target patterns; for each pair of plural of features detected, checking the consistency of image intensity profile with the target pattern within the spatial neighborhood as delimited by the feature points detected in the searching and detecting steps; and labeling those image regions that are found to be consistent with the structure of the target pattern in the checking step.
