An insertion device and insertion set. The insertion device for inserting at least a portion of at least one piercing member of an insertion set through the skin of a patient includes a device housing, a carrier body and a driver. The carrier body is slidably received within the device housing for movement between an advanced position and a retracted position. The carrier body also includes a receiving structure to support the insertion set in a position with the at least one piercing member oriented for insertion through the skin of the patient at a predetermined angle relative to the skin of the patient upon movement of the carrier body from the retracted position to the advanced position. The driver is operatively coupled between the device housing and the carrier body to urge the carrier body with a controlled force and speed from the retracted position toward the advanced position to place at least a portion of the at least one piercing member of the insertion set thorough the skin of the patient to install the insertion set to the patient. The receiving structure of the carrier body is removable from the insertion set while maintaining the installation of the insertion set to the patient.

Insertion device for an insertion set and method of using the same

A medication infusion pump includes a housing, a medication chamber defined within the housing, a medication delivery device in fluid communication with the medication chamber, a propellant chamber defined within the housing and adapted to apply a predetermined positive pressure to a medication in the medication chamber, and a non-ozone depleting, non-toxic propellant within the propellant chamber. The propellant preferably has a vapor pressure between about 11 psig and about 50 psig at 37&deg; C.

Constant flow medication infusion pump

A medication infusion pump is provided for substantially constant flow delivery of a selected medication from a medication chamber through a catheter to a patient. The medication infusion pump comprises a compact housing adapted for implantation into the body of a patient, wherein the housing defines a hollow interior forming a medication chamber. An inlet port on the housing permits transcutaneous access to and filling of the medication chamber within the housing. A flexible propellant reservoir occupies a portion of the medication chamber volume and is filled with a selected fluid propellant to apply a substantially constant pressure to the medication for medication delivery with substantially constant flow through an elongated capillary tube and the catheter for administration to the patient. The capillary tube is spooled within the housing at the perimeter thereof in association with an annular filter of large surface area to prevent impurities and particulate from entering and potentially clogging the capillary tube. The inlet port also includes a click plate for providing a positive feedback indication of proper registration between the inlet port and a refill needle for refilling the medication chamber.

An endocardial lead assembly, adapted to transmit electrical signals between a proximal end portion of the lead assembly and a distal end portion of the assembly and to thereby stimulate selected body tissue, includes at least two coiled, insulatively coated conductors extending between the proximal and distal end portions for transmitting the electrical signals. The coils of the at least two insulated conductors are contiguous and have substantially the same first outer diameter, one of the coiled conductors having a portion extending through said distal end portion of the lead and being electrically connected to said tip electrode. The remaining conductor(s) terminate at a proximal extremity of the distal end portion, the portion of the one coiled conductor within the distal end portion including contiguous, uninsulated coils having a second outer diameter that is less than the first diameter. The lead assembly includes an insulating sheath of biocompatible material for electrically insulating the at least two coiled conductors from body tissue and fluids.
