An oral care composition having a first phase of clinically efficacious 2,4,4'-trichloro 2&#x2032;-hydroxydiphenyl ether admixed in a first orally acceptable aqueous vehicle, and a second phase having a stannous salt (such as stannous fluoride) admixed in a second orally acceptable aqueous vehicle. The second phase has no less than 10 molar percent of soluble stannous ion respective to a mathematical sum of moles of the soluble stannous ion and moles of the stannous salt in the second phase. In one embodiment, the two phases are provided in a dual-tube toothpaste oral care kit.

An efficacious antibacterial and anti-inflammatory oral composition is provided having an active ingredient combination comprising one or more active compounds from an extract ofand an extract of hops. Preferably, the active compounds fromextract comprise honokiol and magnolol, and the active compounds from hops extract comprise hexahydrogenated beta acids. The oral composition can be in the form of a mouth rinse or dentifrice, including toothpaste, gels, powders, confectionaries, lozenges, animal products, and the like. A method for enhancing the antiplaque efficacy of an antibacterial dentifrice, comprising preparing a multicomponent dentifrice composition having a first dentifrice component containing an antibacterial agent and manganese coordination complex compound, and a second dentifrice component containing a peroxide compound; maintaining the first and second dentifrice components separately prior to use; combining the dentifrice components and applying the two components to the teeth and periodontium, whereby the dentifrice provides enhanced inhibition of plaque growth.

Method to enhance the antibacterial efficacy of antibacterial dentifrices

A composition comprising thymol and eugenol, and optionally a sesquiterpene alcohol, such as, farnesol or has been found to have plaque and gingivitis effect. Flavoring agents may be included to provide an organoleptically acceptable oral product. Australian Tea Tree oil, sage oil and eucalyptol were found to enhance the antiplaque and antigingivitis activity of mouthrinses formulated from these compositions. These compositions exhibit an antibacterial effect vs. A. viscosus of about 25 MIC or less.
