A method of making a silyl-terminated polyurethane in an aqueous dispersion aqueous silyl-terminated polyurethane dispersions are described. In one embodiment, the polyurethane comprises a) urethane moieties derived from the reaction of a (i) a diol; (ii) a neutralized anionic water solubilizing compound; and iii) a diisocyanate. The polyurethane also comprises b) silyl terminal groups derived from an alkoxy silane compound having the formula (RO)SiR&#x2014;Z, wherein Ris independently hydrogen or a C-Calkyl; Ris a divalent group selected from alkylene, alkylarylene, oxyalkylene; and Z is selected from the group consisting of &#x2014;OH, &#x2014;SH, &#x2014;NR, &#x2014;NH, wherein R is an aromatic or aliphatic cyclic group. The polyurethane also comprises c) urea moieties derived from the reaction of an isocyanate terminated prepolymer and a difunctional hydrazine or hydrazide compound.

Polyurethane-polyurea dispersions comprising hydrazine or hydrazide chain extenders

Provided are one-part, shelf-stable polyurethane aerosol compositions, and related articles and methods. When sprayed onto a substrate and dried, these compositions provide polyurethane films. These polyurethane films display improved moisture resistance, optical clarity, and weatherability compared to known aerosol compositions, particularly in adverse environmental conditions. The compositions generally include an aqueous polyurethane dispersion containing a urethane moiety obtained by reacting (i) a polyol or thiol having isocyanate-reactive functional groups, (ii) a neutralized water-solubilizing compound, and (iii) a diisocyanate and optionally a silane terminal group; a propellant; and optionally one or more additives.

Polyurethane aerosol compositions, articles, and related methods

Provided are tinted or tintable and clear films formed from liquid tint material, and methods of making and using the same. Such films are useful to application to substrates such as glass, specifically windows on vehicles, to reduce glare from the sun, reject heat, provide protection from UV rays, and create a unique or decorative look to the vehicle. The films dry into a smooth and clear thin film. The film-forming liquid tint materials comprise: an aqueous polymeric dispersion; a tinting agent dispersed in the aqueous polymeric dispersion; wherein upon contact with a substrate, the film-forming liquid tint material dries to a film that is clear and tintable. The tinting agents, in particular, photoactive components, can be encapsulated in a plurality of ORMOSIL nanoparticles.
