Disclosed herein are glass containers which may include a glass body comprising an alkali aluminosilicate glass composition having a Class HGA1 hydrolytic resistance when tested according to the ISO 720:1985 testing standard. The glass body may have an interior surface and an exterior surface. A heat-tolerant coating may be bonded to at least a portion of the exterior surface of the glass body. The heat-tolerant coating may have a coefficient of friction of less than about 0.7 and is thermally stable at a temperature of at least 260° C. for 30 minutes. The heat-tolerant coating may comprise a polymer, and the heat-tolerant coating may have a thickness of less than or equal to 100 nm.

Delamination resistant glass containers with heat-tolerant coatings

Disclosed herein are delamination resistant glass pharmaceutical containers which may include a glass body having a Class HGA1 hydrolytic resistance when tested according to the ISO 720:1985 testing standard. The glass body may have an interior surface and an exterior surface. The interior surface of the glass body does not comprise a boron-rich layer when the glass body is in an as-formed condition. A heat-tolerant coating may be bonded to at least a portion of the exterior surface of the glass body. The heat-tolerant coating may have a coefficient of friction of less than about 0.7 and is thermally stable at a temperature of at least 250&#xb0; C. for 30 minutes.

Embodiments of glass containers resistant to delamination and methods for forming the same are disclosed. According to one embodiment, a delamination resistant glass container may include a glass article having a body extending between an interior surface and an exterior surface. The body defines an interior volume. The body may include an interior region extending from 10 nm below the interior surface of the body into a thickness of the body. The interior region has a persistent layer homogeneity such that the body is resistant to delamination.

An apparatus and method for producing a glass article includes a melting vessel, a fining vessel located downstream from the melting vessel, and a bubbling vessel that is downstream from the melting vessel and upstream from the fining vessel. The fining vessel may include at least a first zone and a second zone downstream from the first zone, wherein the average temperature of the first zone is higher than the average temperature of the second zone.

Glass melting system and method for increased homogeneity

Disclosed herein are delamination resistant glass pharmaceutical containers which may include an aluminosilicate glass having a Class HGA 1 hydrolytic resistance when tested according to ISO 720-1985 testing standard. The glass containers may also have a compressive stress layer with a depth of layer of greater than 25 &#x3bc;m. A surface compressive stress of the glass containers may be greater than or equal to 350 MPa. The delamination resistant glass pharmaceutical containers may be ion exchange strengthened and the ion exchange strengthening may include treating the delamination resistant glass pharmaceutical container in a molten salt bath for a time less than or equal to 5 hours at a temperature less than or equal to 450&#xb0; C.

A method of making a glass sheet includes exposing a refractory block material comprising at least one multivalent component to a reducing atmosphere for a time and at a temperature sufficient to substantially reduce the at least one multivalent component of the refractory block material. The method also includes flowing molten glass over the refractory block material that has been exposed to the reducing atmosphere while preventing substantial re-oxidation of the at least one multivalent component.

Method of making glass sheets with gas pretreatment of refractory

Delamination resistant glass containers with heat-tolerant coatings are disclosed. In one embodiment, a glass container may include a glass body having an interior surface, an exterior surface and a wall thickness extending from the exterior surface to the interior surface. At least the interior surface of the glass body is delamination resistant. The glass container may further include a heat-tolerant coating positioned on at least a portion of the exterior surface of the glass body. The heat-tolerant coating may be thermally stable at temperatures greater than or equal to 260&#xb0; C. for 30 minutes.

A method of making a glass sheet includes treating a refractory block material comprising at least one multivalent component with a vehicle comprising at least one redox altering component or precursor. The method also includes flowing molten glass over the refractory block material, wherein the treatment of the refractory block material with the vehicle comprising at least one redox altering component or precursor reduces the amount of oxygen production resulting from interaction between the at least one multivalent component and the molten glass.

Method of making glass sheets with vehicle pretreatment of refractory

A fuel cell and method for manufacturing the fuel cell are described herein. Basically, the fuel cell is formed from an electrode/electrolyte structure including an array of anode electrodes and cathode electrodes disposed on opposing sides of an electrolyte sheet, the anode and cathode electrodes being electrically connected in series, parallel, or a combination thereof by electrical conductors that traverse via holes in the electrolyte sheet. Several different embodiments of electrical conductors which have a specific composition and/or a specific geometry are described herein.

In the formation of sheet material from molten glass, molten glass is formed in a melting furnace and transported through a precious metal delivery system to the forming apparatus. Disclosed herein is a method to mitigate carbon contamination of individual components of the precious metal delivery system prior to and/or during their use. The method involves positioning an oxygen generating material within portions of a precious metal component, and may comprise one or more heat treating steps of the component in an oxygen-containing atmosphere.

Method for eliminating carbon contamination of platinum-containing components for a glass making apparatus

A method of making a fused silica article that is loaded with hydrogen. A fused silica glass near net shape part is provided and is loaded with a molecular hydrogen in a range from about 0.1&#xd7;10molecules/cmup to about 1&#xd7;10molecules/cm. The thinner shape of the near net shape part enables the shape to be loaded more quickly than previous methods. A fused silica article loaded with hydrogen using the method is also described.

A silica glass article, such as a lens in a stepper/scanner system, having saturated induced absorption at wavelengths of less than about 250 nm. Saturated induced absorption is achieved by first removing Si&#x2014;O defects in the silica glass by forming silicon hydride (SiH) at such defects, and loading the silica glass with hydrogen to react with E' centers formed by photolysis of SiH in the silica glass article. The silicon hydride is formed by loading the silica glass with molecular hydrogen at temperatures of at least 475&#xb0; C. After formation of SiH, the silica glass is loaded with additional molecular hydrogen at temperatures of less than 475&#xb0; C.
