Thermoformable films that contain a blend and/or composite structure containing an ethylene/vinyl or vinylidene aromatic polymer or an alpha-olefin/vinyl or vinylidene aromatic polymer, such as an ethylene/styrene interpolymer, a vinyl or vinylidene aromatic homo- or copolymer, such as polystyrene, and, optionally, an alpha-olefin homo- or copolymer serve as effective carrier layers for heat transfer foils.

Adhere a polymer blend facer to at least one, preferably both, primary surfaces of a foam panel or board to provide a laminate with a combination of enhanced strength and resistance to bending relative to the foam panel. The polymer blend facer, prepared from a combination of an alkenyl aromatic polymer and an interpolymer of ethylene, an alkenyl aromatic monomer or hindered aliphatic or cycloaliphatic vinylidene monomer, provides an added benefit in terms of greater recyclability into a foam panel relative to biaxially oriented polypropylene. The polymer blend facer may be a film or a thin foam sheet.

Disclosed is at least a two-layered chlorinated polyethylene film for use as an inner liner for a pneumatic rubber substrate or a tire, with an inner layer adjacent an inner surface of the rubber substrate comprising an adhesive resin; and an outer layer consisting essentially of chlorinated polyethylene containing from about 35 to about 50% by weight chlorine, a derivative of 2,5-dimercapto 1-3,4 thiadiazole as a curative, an accelerator, an acid acceptor, and optionally containing carbon black. The film is from about 5 mil to about 30 mil in thickness, and has oxygen permeability from about 10 to about 60 cc-mil/100 sq.in.-atm-day. The film containing carbon black typically has an intermediate layer of a thermoplastic elastomer interposed between the adhesive layer and CPE layer. Further disclosed is a pneumatic rubber substrate or a tire incorporating chlorinated polyethylene films of the present invention.

Elastomeric barrier films for tires

Films containing polybenzazole polymer dissolved in a solvent can be mechanically stretched to provide biaxial orientation. The resulting dope film can be coagulated. The polymer film has improved properties in the direction in which stretching occurs.

Disclosed is a process for preparing a biaxially oriented substantially non-shrinkable film comprising coextruding a multilayered film comprising a first and second outer layers of resinous thermoplastic material and a barrier layer of a resinous copolymer of vinylidene chloride and an alkyl acrylate, and biaxially draw-tentering the film at a temperature within about 10.degree. Disclosed are biaxially oriented, coextruded multilayer barrier films wherein a substantial degree of oxygen impermeability is retained after orientation. The barrier layer of the films comprise a copolymer of vinylidene chloride and an alkyl acrylate, wherein the copolymer has a melting point about equal to or less than the melting point of the thermoplastic material comprising the outer layers of the film and has an oxygen permeability of less than 0.25 cc-mil/100 sq. in.-atm-day based upon the thickness of the barrier layer. Further disclosed are biaxially oriented nonshrinkable multilayer barrier films having barrier layers of a copolymer of vinylidene chloride and from more than 6 to about 10 weight percent methyl acrylate. Further disclosed is a process for making the biaxially oriented, coextruded barrier films.
