A signal generator generates amplitude noise on a selected segment of a test signal. A user interface is used for selecting a segment of the test signal and an associated power level for applying amplitude noise at a selected power level to the test signal segment. A signal processing unit compiles the selected power level of the selected segment with the test signal to generate digital data representative of the test signal with selected segments having amplitude noise. A waveform generator receives the digital data and generating a test signal output having amplitude noise at selected segments of the test signal. The method includes the steps of: selecting a segment of the test signal to add amplitude noise; selecting a power level for the amplitude noise; and applying the amplitude noise at the selected power level to the selected segment of the test signal.

A signal generator generates a WiMedia ultra wideband test signal with a user interface for setting test sequences and parameters of the test signal. Parameters are set for Presentation Protocol Data Units associated with Packet Groups of the test signal. A signal processing unit compiles the Groups containing the Presentation Protocol Data units to generate digital data representative of the test signal. A waveform generator receives the digital data and generating a test signal output having Packet Groups containing Presentation Protocol Data Units. A method is describes for setting test sequences and parameters of an ultra wideband test signal test signal with a user interface of the signal generator.

Instinctive operation of editing parameters of waveform is provided. Tabsandare displayed on a display screento show existence of parameter edit screen layers of different combinations of characters, waveforms and channels. If one of the tabs are selected the display is switched to show the corresponding parameter edit screen layer. Channel characters or waveforms are displayed on the tabsandand are changed dynamically according to the setting so that a user can easily realize setting outlines of the respective channels at a glance.

A logic analyzer that performs analog-type measurements on digital data includes circuitry in its acquisition system that is programmable to search through acquired data to detect analog-type signal characteristics. In a first embodiment, the logic analyzer includes a graphical user interface employing a drag-and-drop operation to apply one or more selected analog-type measurements to selected portions of the digital data record. In a second embodiment, a user may designate a particular waveform or data listing by means of a mouse-click. Each of the choices of analog-type measurements can be represented by an icon, or text, or both icon and text. Some of the analog-type measurements, among others, are pulse width, duty cycle, period, frequency, period jitter, and cycle-to-cycle jitter

A method of generating reports for data in the form of a multiplicity of data files in an accessible data storage medium uses a user interface to specify a desired report and a sample data file name, the data file names having a variable portion and a non-variable portion. A search algorithm searches the accessible data storage medium for all related data files having the same non-variable portion in their data file names, and logically groups the data files according to the variable portion of their data file names. The related data files are processed according to specified parameters, such as thresholds and limits, and a display is provided of the analysis results, highlighting significant data. The report results with linked data may be stored on an intranet site in an appropriate format to be accessible via a web page using a conventional web browser.
