A gathering and dispensing scoop with agitating gate valve provides a hemispherically shaped scoop body defining an upper opening, a bottom opening, and a channel extending therebetween. A handle extends radially from an outer peripheral surface of the scoop body. A sector shaped gate valve transects the channel and has a user operable finger tab adjacent to the handle for a user to pivot the gate valve from a first position obstructing the bottom opening to a second position wherein the gate valve no longer obstructs the channel and opens the bottom opening.

A gate valve transects the channel and has a user operable finger tab adjacent to the handle for a user to move the gate valve from a first position transecting the channel and obstructing the bottom opening to a second position wherein the gate valve no longer obstructs the channel and opens the bottom opening.

A dispensing device is adapted for release of a measured quantity of granular material. A base is generally disk-shaped. A stop is carried by an upper surface of the base, and is adjustably positionable so that when a container to be filled is moved into contact with the stop, that container is correctly positioned. A body is attached to a support ledge defined about the perimeter of the base. The body is generally cylindrical, and defines an interior cavity with access through a front opening and a circular top defining an off-center hole. A slide is supported by the top, and is manually movable between a loading position wherein a spring biasing the slide is stressed, and a dispensing position wherein the spring is relaxed. A slide enclosure is attached to the upper rim of the body portion. An input funnel provides a larger upper circular rim and a smaller lower circular rim which is concentric with the upper rim when viewed from the end. Short or long dispensing funnels may be attached a collar extending from the rim of the off-center hole in the top of the body. A canister containing powdered or granular material, may be attached with an inverted orientation to the upper rim of the input funnel.

Device for dispensing granular material

A dispensing device is adapted for one-handed operation, and for release of a measured quantity of granular material. A base is generally disk-shaped. A stop is carried by an upper surface of the base, and is adjustably positionable so that when a container to be filled is moved into contact with the stop, that container is correctly positioned. A body,is attached to a support ledge defined about the perimeter of the base. The body is generally cylindrical, and defines an interior cavity with access through a front opening and a circular top having an off-center hole. A slide is supported by the top, and is manually movable between a loading position wherein a spring arm biasing the slide is relaxed, and a dispensing position wherein the spring arm is stressed. A slide enclosure is attached to the upper rim of the body portion. An input funnel provides an upper circular rim which is generally concentric with the sidewall of the body when viewed on end, and a lower circular rim which is in-line with the hole in the top of the circular top of the body. Short or long dispensing funnels may be attached a collar extending from the rim of the hole in the top of the body. A canister containing powdered or granular material, may be attached with an inverted orientation to the upper rim of the input funnel.

An apparatus for performing 3-dimensional antibiotic susceptibility tests includes a plate with culture medium thereon, the plate rotatably mounted to a support for selective rotation. A knife is located to cut a slit in the culture medium as the plate is rotated, with a dispensing stylus located to dispense inoculum into the slit formed by the knife. A wedge apparatus is mounted adjacent the plate with a wedge-shaped leg depending into the culture medium so as to compress the culture medium towards the center of the plate, to thereby force the walls of the slit together after the inoculum has been deposited within the slit. A method for performing modified 3-dimensional antibiotic susceptibility tests includes the step of uniformly spreading a test microorganism over the top surface of culture medium on a plate. A slit is then formed in the culture medium and a uniform stream of suspending medium with a test microorganism therein is dispensed in and along the length of the slit. At least one antibiotic disk is then placed on the culture medium adjacent the slit, and the medium is incubated as desired.
