Systems, methods, and computer-readable media, for reducing transitions between active and idle states are provided. In some embodiments, transition data indicating transitions between an active state and an idle state associated with a mobile device is received. Thereafter, an idle state pattern that indicates a pattern of an idle state associated with the mobile device is identified. Based on the idle state pattern, an inactivity timer update corresponding with the idle state pattern is provided to at least one communication tower. The inactivity timer update provides a time duration or time duration adjustment to be applied by the at least one communication tower for use in detecting a transition from an active state to an idle state.

Reducing transitions between idle and active states

A method and system to manage coordinated transmission of data in a wireless communication system. When a serving base station receives data of a particular class for transmission to a user equipment device (UE), the serving base station transmits the received data to the UE and sends a proper subset of the received data to a neighboring base station for the neighboring base station to also transmit to the UE optimally concurrently with the serving base station's transmission of the proper subset. To help comply with a policy in place at the neighboring base station, the serving base station decides how much of the received data to send to the neighboring base station as the proper subset by (i) determining what scheduling weight the neighboring base station is set to apply for data of the particular class and (ii) applying that determined scheduling weight to the received data.

Method and system for coordinated transmission with use of neighboring base station scheduling policy

Examples disclosed herein provide systems, methods, and software to transition signaling formats for a wireless communication device. In one example, a method of operating an eNodeB to transition signaling formats or modes for a wireless communication device includes exchanging first wireless communication signals with the wireless communication device using multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) signaling. The method further includes identifying a signal transition event for the wireless communication device and, in response to identifying the signal transition event, determining whether the wireless communication device meets a transition criteria. The method also provides, if the wireless communication device meets the transition criteria, exchanging second wireless communication signals with the wireless communication device using beamforming signaling.

Transmission mode selection based on wireless communication device information

A wireless communication device uses an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex (OFDM) resource block structure. The wireless communication device generates and stores data for wireless transmission. The wireless communication device translates an identifier and a current time into one or more OFDM resource blocks that are reserved for use without base station scheduling. The wireless communication device generates one or more authorization marks. The wireless communication device wirelessly transmits the data and the one or more authorization marks in the one or more OFDM resource blocks that are reserved for use without base station scheduling.

Resource block structure and control in a wireless OFDM communication system

Systems and methods are described for assigning a profile to a wireless device in a communication network. Usage data associated with a wireless device may be received at a first access node. A first bearer profile may be assigned to a data transmission path. The usage data may be monitored for a set of criteria for a predetermined time period. A second bearer profile may be assigned to the data transmission path based on the usage data associated with the wireless device when the set of criteria is met. The wireless device may be detached from the communication network. The wireless device may be updated with the second bearer profile.

Systems and methods for managing congestion in a wireless communication network

An example embodiment may involve defining a time-division multiplexed, orthogonal frequency-division multiplexed wireless air interface containing a primary signaling channel. The primary signaling channel may be formed by a first set of modulation symbols that are allocated to a fixed time position of each time-division multiplexed subframe across a plurality of contiguous subcarrier frequencies. A first set of the subcarrier frequencies may be powered at a first level and a second set of subcarrier frequencies may be powered at a second level. The example embodiment may also involve defining a secondary signaling channel. The secondary signaling channel may be formed in the air interface by a second set of modulation symbols that are allocated to dynamic time positions on the first set of the subcarrier frequencies. The example embodiment may further involve transmitting signaling messages to one or more WCDs via the secondary signaling channel.

Control channel indication based on power level

A method and system for managing time segments per subframe used for downlink control channel communication by adjacent base stations that each provide carrier-aggregation service on first and second component carriers. The base stations may work with each other to differentially structure the component carriers, such that the base stations use different time segments than each other for downlink control channel communication on the first component carrier but the same time segments as each other for downlink control channel communication on the second component carrier. Further, based on this differential structuring, the base stations may then schedule transmission of one type of data on the first component carrier and another type of data on the second component carrier.

Management of component carriers based on time segment coordination

To help manage resources in a cellular wireless communication system, a base station may track air interface resource allocation for each UE the base station is serving with a call and may identify one or more of the UEs or calls as candidates for handover from the base station on grounds that air interface resource allocation to each of the identified one or more UEs is high. Upon receipt of a request from a UE to initiate a new call, the base station may then predict based at least on that UE's channel quality what the air interface resource allocation rate will be for the requested call. And if the predicted rate for the given UE is threshold low, the base station may select one of the candidate UEs and force a handover of the selected UE's call from the base station.

Managing calls based on resource allocation

Disclosed is a method and apparatus to help facilitate providing of multiple Downlink Control Information (DCI) messages that separately schedule downlink communication of bearer data to a wireless communication device (WCD) in a given sub-frame, to help ensure receipt of such multiple DCI messages by the WCD. As disclosed, a base station will include in at least one such DCI message an indication that there is in the sub-frame at least one other such DCI message. When the WCD receives and reads the one such DCI message, the WCD may thereby learn from the indication that there is at least one other such DCI message in the sub-frame. The WCD may then search for and find the at least other such DCI message in the sub-frame and/or may use the indication as a basis to verify receipt of all such DCI messages in the sub-frame.

Use of indication in downlink control information messaging to signal presence of additional downlink control information messaging

A method and system for managing time segments per subframe used for downlink control channel communication by adjacent base stations. The base stations may work with each other to arrange for their respective use of different time segments per subframe for their respective downlink control channel use. Further, each base station may also avoid downlink traffic channel communication in the time segments per subframe that the other base station will be using for control channel communication.

Management of time segment use for wireless communication

A Mobility Management Entity (MME) of a wireless network and verification method for verifying a Channel Quality Indicator (CQI) of a roaming Wireless Communication Device (WCD) are provided. The MME in one example includes an interface configured to receive a roaming request of the roaming WCD and a processing system coupled to the interface. The processing system is configured to obtain a home CQI of the roaming WCD, compare the home CQI to a contract-stipulated CQI for the roaming WCD, and use the contract-stipulated CQI for the roaming WCD if the home CQI differs from the contract-stipulated CQI.

An example embodiment may involve determining a quality of service level for network traffic associated with a WCD. The WCD may be served by an air interface of a RAN. The air interface may include a primary signaling channel and a secondary signaling channel, where the primary signaling channel simultaneously spans all of a plurality of contiguous subcarrier frequencies and the secondary signaling channel does not simultaneously span all of the plurality of contiguous subcarrier frequencies. The example embodiment may further involve, possibly based on the quality of service level for the network traffic associated with the WCD, selecting the primary signaling channel or the secondary signaling channel for transmission of a signaling message to the WCD. The example embodiment may also involve transmitting the signaling message to the WCD via the selected signaling channel.

Control channel selection based on quality of service

An example embodiment may involve defining an orthogonal frequency-division multiplexed (OFDM) wireless air interface that contains time-division multiplexed subframes. A primary signaling channel may be formed by modulation symbols that are statically allocated to fixed time positions of each subframe, and span contiguous subcarrier frequencies. A secondary signaling channel may be defined in the OFDM wireless air interface. The secondary signaling channel may be formed by modulation symbols that are dynamically allocated to time positions of one or more subcarrier frequencies, and span at least two consecutive subframes of the OFDM wireless air interface. A signaling message may be transmitted, on the primary signaling channel, to one or more WCDs. The signaling message may be transmitted in a first subframe of the consecutive subframes, and may identify the secondary signaling channel.

Semi-persistent secondary signaling channels

A Long Term Evolution (LTE) Serving Gateway (S-GW) to indicate mode transitions of a wireless communication device comprises a communication transceiver and a processing system. The communication transceiver is configured to establish a default bearer between the LTE S-GW and an LTE Packet Data Network Gateway (P-GW) for the wireless communication device, establish a bearer channel between an LTE access node and the LTE S-GW, and exchange data over the bearer channel responsive to the wireless communication device entering an active mode. The processing system is configured to release the bearer channel between the LTE access node and the LTE S-GW responsive to the wireless communication device entering an idle mode, generate mode transition records indicating idle-to-active mode transitions and indicating active-to-idle mode transitions of the wireless communication device, and direct the communication transceiver to transfer the mode transition records.
