In particular embodiments, a system for managing a virtualization environment includes host machines, each of the host machines including a hypervisor, user virtual machines (UVMs) and a virtual machine controller. The virtualization environment also includes virtual disks comprising a plurality of storage devices, and being accessible by the virtual machine controllers. The virtual machine controllers conduct I/O transactions with the virtual disks. The system stores an entity-relationship graph representing elements in the virtualization environment. Each of the elements is represented by an entity-type node in the entity-relationship graph, and relationships between the elements are represented by edges between the nodes.

A system and method for transmitting data from a local management system of a remote office branch office site in a virtual computing system to a central management system includes assigning, by the local management system, an initial priority to each piece of data, identifying data requested by the central management system since a previous data transmission, and updating the initial priority of each piece of data to an updated priority. The data requested by the central management system is prioritized higher than other data. The system and method also include combining, by the local management system, at least a portion of the data starting with data having a highest priority, into a data packet until the data packet achieves a computed data packet size, transmitting the data packet to the central management system, and updating the initial priority with the updated priority for future data transmissions.

Systems and methods for managing contiguous addressing via virtual paging registers in a page table used in a high-performance computing platform. One embodiment commences upon initializing a first paging register with a first virtual address of a first virtual address length to form a first virtual address space, then receiving a request from a process to allocate physical memory corresponding to a second virtual address request. A memory allocator allocates the requested physical memory from a physical memory location determined by the memory allocator. An operating system or other sufficiently privileged access identifies a second paging register that is contiguously adjacent to the first paging register. If the second paging register is already in use, then the method identifies an unused (third) paging register into which the contents of the second paging register can be relocated. The method stores the second virtual address into the now freed-up second paging register.

A method for implementing quality of service (QoS) for network communications sharing a network in a networked virtualization environment for storage management, includes receiving a network communication from a controller VM, identifying whether the network communication is a data communication type issued by a user VM or a control communication type issued by the controller VM, applying a set of rules to the network communication based on its communication type, and placing the network communication in a prioritization class queue based on a result of applying the set of rules to the network communication.
