A power control system for a propulsion system of a vehicle includes an energy storage system including a precharge circuit and one or more battery packs. A DC-DC converter is connected to the energy storage system and including a first capacitor, a first plurality of power switches and an inductor. A power inverter module is connected to the DC-DC converter and including a second capacitor and a second plurality of power switches. A controller is configured to pre-charge the first capacitor of the DC-DC converter and the second capacitor of the power inverter module and control operating modes of the DC-DC converter and the power inverter module.

The electric motor includes a rotor and a stator having a first set of windings having a first number of turns and a second set of windings having a second number of turns that is different than the first number of turns. A choke device for an electric machine system is provided. The choke device includes a common-mode choke including a magnetic core configured in cross-section as a geometric shape including a hollow center. The choke device further includes a plurality of electric transmission lines configured for transmitting electrical energy in alternating current, wherein the plurality of electric transmission lines is routed through the hollow center. The geometric shape includes a number of sides based upon a number of the electric transmission lines present and is configured for minimizing or reducing an overall flux length of the magnetic core.

An electric motor control system includes an alternating current (AC) electric motor having a first phase input, a second phase input, and a third phase input, and an AC electrical energy source having a first phase output, a second phase output and a third phase output. The system also includes conductors coupled between the phase outputs of the AC electrical energy source and the phase inputs of the AC electric motor. The electric motor control system also has circuitry that further includes a rectifier with phase inputs coupled to the conductors. The rectifier produces a rectified voltage between a positive rectifier output and a negative rectifier output. The system additionally includes an energy storage element coupled across the positive rectifier output and the negative rectifier output and a voltage limiting diode coupled to the positive rectifier output to limit a voltage of the positive rectifier output.

In particular, embodiments of the present disclosure relate to handling constraints for parameters such as current, voltage, and torque associated with an electric motor. An electric vehicle includes a drive system that performs a method of transferring power between a vehicle and an external location. The drive system includes a battery, a rectifier, and a processor. The rectifier is one of a two-level rectifier and a multi-level rectifier. The processor is configured to connect the rectifier between an alternating current (AC) port of an outlet of an external location and the battery. The rectifier is configured to convert between an AC power at the AC port on an external side of the rectifier and a direct current (DC) power at a vehicle side of the rectifier in order to transfer power bi-directionally between the external location and the battery.

Method and apparatus for integrated bi-directional charging

A multi-level inverter control system includes a power storage system having a high voltage terminal, a low voltage terminal, and an intermediate voltage terminal. The intermediate voltage terminal is at a voltage between the high voltage terminal and the low voltage terminal. A multi-level inverter includes a plurality of switches, a high voltage input connected to the high voltage terminal, a low voltage input connected to the low voltage terminal, and an intermediate voltage input connected to the intermediate voltage terminal. A controller is controllably coupled to the multi-level inverter. The controller includes at least a processor and a memory. The memory stores instructions configured to cause the controller to operate the multi-level inverter in a three-level inverter mode, a full power two-level inverter mode, a first partial power two-level inverter mode and a second partial power two-level inverter mode.

Power transfer in an electric motors including segmented windings utilize control commands. A control system determines a d-axis command voltage for a secondary winding of an electric motor and a q-axis command voltage for the secondary winding based on a primary winding voltage, primary winding current, secondary winding current, and rotor electrical position. The control system generates gate control signals based on the determined d-axis command voltage and q-axis command voltage for the secondary winding and transmits the gate control signals to an inverter coupled to the secondary winding to control an electrical power transfer between the primary winding and the secondary winding.

Techniques are provided for torque ripple mitigation. In one embodiment, the techniques involve determining a first torque ripple at a torque output of a target electrical machine, upon determining that the first torque ripple exceeds a threshold, reproducing the torque output based on a pair of gamma control sets, determining a second torque ripple at the reproduced torque output, upon determining that the second torque ripple falls below the threshold, generating qualified gamma controls based on the gamma control sets, and supplying the qualified gamma controls to the target electrical machine.

A battery system for an electric vehicle includes at least one battery cell configured to store charge for powering an electric vehicle, a high voltage bus electrically coupled with the at least one battery, a DC-DC converter electrically coupled with the battery cell, a low voltage bus electrically connected between the DC-DC converter and at least one vehicle electrical component, and a cell monitor electrically coupled with the at least one battery cell and the DC-DC converter, wherein the cell monitor includes a current sensor configured to detect a current from the at least one battery cell to the DC-DC converter. The cell monitor includes a controller configured to estimate a state of charge of the at least one battery cell according to the current detected by the current sensor, and adjust switching operation of the DC-DC converter according to the current detected by the current sensor.

An energy storage system includes a second plurality of switches and one or more battery packs. A vehicle and a drive system include a method of operating the vehicle. In another exemplary embodiment, a drive system of a vehicle is disclosed. The drive system includes a first sensor, a second sensor and a processor. The first sensor is disposed at a first location of the drive system for measuring a first angle of rotation. The second sensor is disposed at a second location of the drive system for measuring a second angle of rotation. The processor is configured to determine a torque transferred between the first location and the second location based on a difference between the first angle of rotation and the second angle of rotation and control an operation of the drive system based on the torque.

A vehicle includes two or more battery packs configured to power a motor. A controller is configured to dynamically activate an operational mode during operation. The operational mode is one of multiple possible operational modes including a first operational mode defining a series connection between the two or more battery packs and second operational mode defining a parallel connection between the two or more battery packs. The connection between the battery packs is controlled by a first plurality of switches. A plurality of low voltage loads are connected to a subset of the battery packs in the battery packs such that a power output of the subset of the battery packs provides full power to the plurality of low voltage loads. The plurality of low voltage loads are connected to only the subset of the battery packs in both the first operational mode and the second operational mode.
