The present invention provides a composition having a Cto Cisoolefin, an alkylstyrene, and a diolefin, where the Cto Cisoolefin is not the same as the diolefin. The invention also provides a composition having a first Cto Cisoolefin and paramethylstyrene component and a second Cto Cisoolefin and paramethylstyrene component. Further, the invention also provides a composition having (a) an elastomer with a Cto Cisoolefin, an alkylstyrene, and a diolefin, where the Cto Cisoolefin is not the same as the diolefin, (b) a secondary rubber, (c) processing aid, (d) curative, and (e) filler.

Isobutylene-containing compositions and articles made thereof

Rubber compounds that comprise rubber and propylene-a-olefin-diene (PE(D)M) polymers may be useful in tire-related articles (e.g., tire sidewalls, inner tubes, and innerliners). Such a rubber compound may comprise: about 5 phr to about 50 phr of the PE(D)M polymer that comprises about 65 wt % to about 99.5 wt % propylene, about 0.5 wt % to about 35 wt % a-olefin that is not propylene, and 0 wt % to about 20 wt % diene, said wt % based on the weight of the PE(D)M polymer, and about 50 parts per hundred parts rubber (phr) to about 95 phr of a rubber that comprises one selected from the group consisting of the halogenated isobutylene-based rubber is selected from the group consisting of: natural rubber, polyisoprene rubber, poly(styrene-co-butadiene) rubber, polybutadiene rubber, poly(isoprene-co-butadiene) rubber, styrene-isoprene-butadiene rubber, butyl rubber, star branched butyl rubber, isobutylene-isoprene rubber, poly(isobutylene-co-alkylstyrene), a halogenated isobutylene-based rubber, polychloroprene rubber, nitrile rubber, and any combination thereof.

Tires comprising rubber compounds that comprise propylene-α-olefin-diene polymers

An elastomer composition can comprise a Cto Cisoolefin; a non-halogenated alkylstyrene; a halogenated alkylstyrene; and optionally a diolefin, wherein the Cto Cisoolefin is not the same as the diolefin. Optionally, the elastomer composition can be blended with a butyl rubber and/or a halobutyl rubber. Such blends that also comprise additives may be suitable for producing tire components such as innerliners.

Butyl based composition having hydrocarbon resins are provided herein. The hydrocarbon resin has a Tg from &#x2212;10&#xb0; C. to 25&#xb0; C., a number average molecular weight between 20 to 500, a weight average molecular weight between about 100 to about 2000, and a glass transition temperature between about 0&#xb0; C. to about &#x2212;80&#xb0; C.

Hydrocarbon resins for butyl based compositions and methods of making the same

A tire tread composition is disclosed. The tire tread composition includes components, by weight of the composition, within the range from: 5 to 75 wt % of a diene elastomer; 0 to 40 wt % of processing oil; 20 to 80 wt % of filler; a curative agent; and 5 to 30 wt % of a propylene-ethylene-diene terpolymer containing from 2 wt % to 40 wt % of ethylene and/or C-C&#x3b1;-olefins derived units, from 0.5 to 10 wt % of diene derived units, and having a heat of fusion, as determined by DSC, of from 0 J/g to 80 J/g.

Propylene-based polymer additives for improved tire tread performance

This invention relates to a brominated elastomer composition comprising a free radical scavenger. The scavenger is present in the amount of at least about 0.05 wt % of the composition. The scavenger is added to the composition so that the Mooney viscosity of the composition does not increase by more than about 15% to about 40%, for up to about 15 days at 80&#xb0; C. The scavenger can be a sterically hindered nitroxyl ether, a nitroxyl radical, or both.

Mooney viscosity stable brominated elastomers

This invention relates to a method of preparing a brominated elastomer having a stabilized Mooney viscosity. The method includes polymerizing isomonoolefins and at least one polymerizable unit to obtain an elastomer/polymer; brominating the elastomer/polymer to form a brominated elastomer effluent; neutralizing the brominated elastomer effluent to form a neutralized effluent; volatizing off the hydrocarbon solvent; and recovering a brominated elastomer. In at least one point of the process, preferably prior to any significant temperature change in the brominated polymer, a Mooney stabilizer is added into the system. Portions of the Mooney stabilizer may be added at multiple points into the process.

Process for preparing a halogenated elastomer with improved Mooney viscosity stability

The present invention is related to an article comprising a substrate, having at least one propylene terpolymer comprising propylene derived units, one or more dienes, and an alpha-olefin content of less than about 35 wt % of the propylene terpolymer; and an adhesive composition, having about 20 to about 80 wt % of a polymer blend comprising a first propylene-based polymer, that is a homopolymer of propylene or a copolymer of propylene and ethylene or a Cto Calpha-olefin, and a second propylene-based polymer, that is a homopolymer of propylene or a copolymer of propylene and ethylene or a Cto Calpha-olefin; wherein the second propylene-based polymer is different than the first propylene-based polymer; and wherein the adhesive composition is applied to the substrate at temperature of less than about 150&#xb0; C.

Polyolefin adhesive compositions for elastic applications

A heterogeneous vulcanized polymer blend comprising a continuous phase comprising a thermoplastic polypropylene having a crystallinity of at least 30% and a dispersed phase comprising particles of an elastomeric copolymer dispersed in the continuous phase and having an average particle size of less than 5 micron. The elastomeric copolymer has a crystallinity of less than 20% and is at least partially cross-linked such that no more than about 80 wt % of the elastomeric copolymer is extractable in cyclohexane at 23&#xb0; C.

Vulcanized polymer blends

A heterogeneous in-situ polymer blend comprising a continuous phase comprising a polypropylene having a crystallinity of at least 30% and a melting point temperature Tgreater than 130&#xb0; C., and a heat of fusion &#x394;Hgreater than 65 J/g; and a dispersed phase comprising particles of an elastomeric copolymer dispersed in the continuous phase and having an average particle size of less than 5 micron, the elastomeric copolymer comprising ethylene units and 0.001 to 5 wt % diene by weight of the copolymer, and having a crystallinity of less than 20% and being at least partially cross-linked such that the degree of cross-link is at least 20%.

Heterogeneous in-situ polymer blend

Provided herein is a process for making a grafted cross-linked polymer blend, by polymerizing a first and second polymer solution (each having 75 to 99 wt % propylene-derived units, 1 to 25 wt % ethylene-derived units, and 0.05 to 6 wt % diene-derived units); combining the first and second polymer solution to produce a polymer blend solution; removing solvent from the polymer blend solution to produce a polymer blend; mixing the polymer blend with a coagent and a vinyl-terminated silane compound; subjecting the polymer blend to electron beam irradiation to grafting the vinyl-terminated silane compound to either or both of the first polymer and the second polymer to form a grafted polymer blend; and moisture curing the grafted polymer blend to form a grafted cross-linked polymer blend, wherein the grafted cross-linked polymer blend is substantially free of peroxide.

Process of making crosslinked polyolefin polymer blends and compositions prepared thereof

Disclosed is an ethylene-propylene copolymer having isotactic polypropylene crystallinity compounded with a halobutyl rubber in an amount effective to improve one or more of aged tensile strength retention, fatigue resistance, and dimensional stability. Also disclosed is an elastomer composition wherein the copolymer can have at least 60 wt % propylene-derived units and at least 6 wt % ethylene-derived units, and a tire inner tube or tire innerliner composition comprising from 1 to 10 phr copolymer. Also disclosed is a vulcanizate of the elastomer composition, and articles, tire innerliners, tires, and tire inner tubes comprising the vulcanizate. Further disclosed are processes for making molded articles, tire inner tubes and tires.

Propylene copolymers in elastomeric compositions

A method for forming a composition comprising a propylene-based polymer and a co-agent is provided. The method comprises introducing a propylene-based polymer to an extruder and introducing the co-agent to the extruder at a position within the extruder where the temperature is from 23&#xb0; C. to 125&#xb0; C.

Methods of forming compositions and articles

The present invention relates to a composition comprising at least one propylene-based polymer comprising less than 0.1 wt. % diene-derived units based on the weight of the propylene-based polymer, an antioxidant, and a co-agent. The composition can be at least partially crosslinked by electron beam irradiation in a dose of less than 200 kGy, and may be further formed into articles including fibers, yarns, films, and nonwovens, among others. The propylene-based polymer of the present invention may be a polymer blend formed by forming a reactor blend from of two or more polymers produced in two or more reactors.
