A gamma correction apparatus for a display device, includes: a measurer configured to measure an optical characteristic of a display panel; and a gamma data generator configured to generate measurement gamma data for at least one measurement gray level pre-determined from among a plurality of gray levels, based on the optical characteristic received from the measurer, generate prediction gamma data for at least one prediction gray level other than the at least one measurement gray level from among the plurality of gray levels by using an equation defining a relationship between a gray level and an optical characteristic, and generate gray level-wise gamma data, based on the measurement gamma data and the prediction gamma data.

Gamma correction apparatus for display device and gamma correction method therefor

A display device includes: a display panel having a first region and a second region defined in the display panel, in which the second region is adjacent to the first region in a first direction. The display panel includes: a first pixel disposed in the first region, a second pixel disposed in the second region, a first bias voltage line electrically connected to the first pixel to transmit a first bias voltage, and a second bias voltage line electrically connected to the second pixel to transmit a second bias voltage. A time point, at which a level of the first bias voltage is changed, differs from a time point at which a level of the second bias voltage is changed, when the display panel operates at a first frame frequency.

In a method of operating a display device, it is determined whether an image represented by input image data is a single color image, it is determined whether the image represented by the input image data is a low gray image, compensated image data are generated by adding sub-pixel data corresponding to a color different from a color of the single color image to the input image data when the image represented by the input image data is the single color image and the low gray image, and an image is displayed based on the compensated image data.
