Compositions, systems, kits and methods for forming a nail coating using a solid activator such as a powdered solid amine or solid component having an amine moiety. The powdered compositions may include a polymeric powder and a solid amine or solid component having an amine moiety. Systems and kits including the powdered composition and a liquid composition comprising a cyanoacrylate monomer are also provided. A method for forming a cosmetic nail coating using a solid activator is also provided. The method may include a) applying a liquid composition to a nail to form a wet nail, the liquid composition comprising a cyanoacrylate monomer, and b) applying to the wet nail a powdered composition, the powdered composition comprising a polymeric powder and a solid amine activator or solid component having an amine moiety.

The invention relates to a method of applying a nailwrap to a human nail. The method includes depositing an effective amount of a polymerization catalyst on the nailwrap, placing the nailwrap on a portion of the nail, and depositing a first layer of a monomer over the nailwrap to simulate a human nail. By depositing the polymerization catalyst on the nailwrap, polymerization of the monomer occurs from the bulk, i.e., the surface of the human nail, and proceeds to the surface of the artificial nail structure. The invention also relates to a nailwrap for use on a human nail with a monomer to support an artificial nail structure. The nailwrap includes a woven fiber and an effective amount of a polymerization catalyst embedded in the fiber to substantially polymerize the monomer.

Rapid drying top coat used to provide a durable glossy look to manicured nails. The rapid-drying, durable coating composition is comprised of a base resin of cellulose acetate butyrate and an aliphatic ester monomer. Additional components include a film former, a cross-linking agent, an inhibitor to polymerization and a solvent. The rapid drying nail polish top-coat composition cures to a hard durable finish within a few minutes on exposure either to safe dosage of ultraviolet light or any heat source depending whether the formulation contains a photoinitiator or thermal initiator. This process of curing also aids in drying the inner layers of nail polish application by evaporating the solvents in these layers. The top coats are non-toxic and exhibit an unique property of non-yellowing.
