Disclosed are methods and devices for, UWB, ranging of a target using a plurality of antenna arrays. The method comprises: determining a first RSSI, from a first antenna of a first antenna arrays, and a second RSSI from a second antenna of a second antenna arrays; in response to the first RSSI being larger than the second RSSI, selecting the first antenna array, and selecting the second antenna array otherwise; using the selected antenna array, performing a UWB ranging measurement including measuring an angle of arrival of the signal from the target; including, if the angle of arrival of the signal from the target is out of range: selecting a different one of the plurality of antennae arrays, as a presently-selected antenna array; and, using that antenna array, performing a UWB ranging measurement including measuring an angle of arrival of the signal from the target.

Devices and methods for selecting antennae for UWB ranging

There is disclosed devices and methods of operating a first device to determine a distance, between it and a further device, the methods comprising: transmitting a first broadcast frame comprising an identifier and a transmission timestamp; receiving a further broadcast frame, the further broadcast frame comprising an identifier of the further device, and a transmission timestamp of the further device, and at least one data pair comprising a transmitting device identifier and a reception timestamp, wherein the reception timestamp is indicative of the arrival time, at the further device, of a prior broadcast frame broadcast from the transmitting device; determining a reception timestamp of the further broadcast frame; comparing each transmitting device identifier with the identifier of the first device; and determining the distance between the first device and the further device.

Efficient UWB ranging

The method includes one or more turnstiles using a non-secure ranging process to detect a proximity of one or more mobile computing devices carried by respective users. The method also includes one of the turnstiles, on making a proximity determination in respect of a first of said mobile computing devices, commencing a secure authentication process to authenticate a user carrying the first mobile computing device. The method further includes, in response to a determination that the user carrying the first mobile computing device has been authenticated, allowing the user carrying the first mobile computing device to pass through the turnstile.

Disclosed are a method for media access controlling and channel time reservation system and method in distributed wireless personal area networks. A method of media access controlling for a distributed wireless network including at least one device, includes a device of the distributed wireless network, generating a data slot reservation indicator for devices of the same beacon group, and the device, broadcasting the generated data slot reservation indicator. Thus, a slot reservation for communication between devices can be completed in a shorter period of time. Also, capacity of the network can be improved by spatial reuse of channel time.

Method for media access controlling and system and method for channel time reservation in distributed wireless personal area network

A power saving system in distributed wireless personal area network and a method thereof are disclosed. A PS (Power Save) anchor that provides information about hibernating devices to a beacon group through power save information elements in media access control for a wireless personal area network based on a wireless mobile ad-hoc network. Accordingly, all devices in the given wireless personal area network can schedule their active modes and hibernating modes according to hibernating intervals of destination devices with which the devices want to communicate. This can effectively reduce the necessity of the devices' waiting for the destination devices to awake from the hibernating mode as the devices maintain their idle state, and thus the power consumption of all the devices in the network can effectively be reduced.

Power saving system in distributed wireless personal area network and method thereof

A system for dynamically shifting beacons in a distributed wireless network and a method thereof are disclosed. In a medium access control for a wireless personal area network based on a mobile ad-hoc network, beacons are shifted to other free lower slots in order to reduce the size of a beacon period. Also, collisions that may occur during the shifting of the beacons are detected and avoided. According to the system and method, the size of the beacon period for transmitting data can sufficiently be secured by dynamically reducing the size of the beacon period without collisions.
