Vibration from a hearing aid receiver (and mechanical shock caused by dropping the hearing aid in which it is installed) is damped by a low-durometer elastomeric component that is adhered external to the receiver. The component may be filled with an electrically nonconductive viscous liquid. The component may also be a solid bead or may be provided with a multiplicity of outwardly-extending flexible fingers.

A system integrates a hearing aid with devices such as wireless telephones, advantageously avoiding radio frequency (RF) interference. In one embodiment, a processor transforms an electrical signal to compensate for a hearing impairment. The function used for signal transformation can be accessed via a processor memory enhancement such as a smart card. A digital-to-analog converter (DAC) converts the transformed signal to an analog signal, which then goes to an amplifier and speaker. In other embodiments, an analog amplifier transforms the electrical signal.

A line is secured to the rotor of a potentiometer which serves as the volume control for a Completely In the Canal ('CIC') hearing aid. The patient can change the volume of the aid by rotating the line and can remove the aid from the ear canal by pulling on the line. By mounting the line on the potentiometer, more space is freed up on and in the hearing aid housing and the patient can change the volume without removing the aid from the ear canal.
