Hydrogen is produced from methanol and water under supercritical temperature and pressure conditions desirably without any catalyst. The hydrogen can be produced in situ on an internal combustion engine using a heat source such as the exhaust system of the internal combustion engine to achieve the supercritical temperature.

Fuel performance booster

A system for reforming diesel fuel into hydrogen including feeds for water and diesel fuel, a supercritical water (SCW) reactor in fluid communication with the water feed and the diesel fuel, at least one pre-heater in thermal communication with the water feed, the diesel fuel feed that is configured to heat water from the water feed and diesel fuel from the diesel fuel feed to a predetermined temperature equal to or greater than the critical temperature of water before the water and the diesel fuel are mixed, a water-gas shift (WGS) reactor, and a hydrogen capturing system, where the SCW reactor reforms the diesel fuel into a synthesis gas comprising a mixture of hydrogen and carbon monoxide and outputs the synthesis gas, the synthesis gas output by the SCW reactor is fed into the WGS reactor which converts the carbon monoxide into carbon dioxide and hydrogen and outputs an output gas including a higher percentage of hydrogen to carbon monoxide compared to the synthesis gas, and the hydrogen in the output gas is captured by the hydrogen capturing system.

Systems and methods for supercritical water reformation of fuels and generation of hydrogen using supercritical water

A method of making a composition having the property of being able to store chlorine dioxide includes mixing an aqueous chlorine dioxide solution with a superabsorbent, water-soluble polymer that is substantially unreactive with chlorine dioxide and permitting a mixture formed thereby to form one of a gel and a solid composition. A method of delivering chlorine dioxide includes providing a gel or solid composition as described and degelling the gel or dissolving the solid composition to dispense the chlorine dioxide therefrom. A method of disinfecting a target such as water, wastewater, or a surface comprises delivering chlorine dioxide as above and permitting the polymer to precipitate out of the mixture. Aqueous chlorine dioxide is then recovered and applied to the target.

A process for rapidly infusing a synthetic resinous substrate with an alkali metal nitrite, comprises (a) essentially completely dissolving the alkali metal nitrite in supercritical carbon dioxide to form a solids-free solution having from about 1 to 15% by weight of the alkali metal nitrite; (b) contacting the synthetic resinous substrate with the solution for a time sufficient to transfer at least a portion of the alkali metal nitrite into the synthetic resinous substrate while maintaining the carbon dioxide under supercritical conditions; and, (c) decreasing pressure or temperature, or both, on the synthetic resinous material sufficiently to evolve carbon dioxide and leave micronized solid alkali metal nitrite crystals in an amount less than 2% by weight essentially uniformly distributed in the synthetic resinous substrate. If desired, up to about 15% by weight of sodium nitrite or potassium nitrite may be transported and deposited in the substrate if transparency of the substrate is irrelevant, because the substrate tends to become opaque.
