A toner cartridge includes a customer replaceable unit monitoring (CRUM) apparatus to store error information of a toner injection process of the toner cartridge using a toner refill apparatus. Based on the error information not being stored in the CRUM apparatus, an availability of a refill operation of the toner cartridge is identified based on a predetermined first reference value and an amount of toner detected in the toner cartridge, and, based on the error information being stored in the CRUM apparatus, the availability of the refill operation of the toner cartridge is identified based on a predetermined second reference value and the amount of toner detected in the toner cartridge.

Method for error handling in the toner refill process

An example toner refill cartridge includes a body to accommodate toner, a plunger inserted into the body and movably coupled to the body in a longitudinal direction of the body, and capable of pushing the toner out of the body, a toner injection amount detector to detect each of a plurality of movement positions of the plunger in accordance with the movement of the plunger, and a connection interface to connect to an image forming apparatus to transmit a signal corresponding to each of the detected movement position to the image forming apparatus.

An example toner refill cartridge includes a body to contain toner, a toner discharge unit, located at a first end portion of the body in a longitudinal direction, to discharge the toner, a plunger, inserted into the body and movable between a top dead position adjacent to a second end portion of the body and a bottom dead position adjacent to the first end portion, to push the toner toward the toner discharge unit, a locking member, removably coupled with the plunger, to lock the plunger at the top dead position, a pulverization member, including a wing portion extending in a radial direction, coupled with the plunger and movable between a first portion adjacent to the first end portion and a second position adjacent to the second end portion, and an elastic member to apply an elastic force to the pulverization member.

An image forming apparatus is provided. The image forming apparatus includes a print engine to perform a print job by using a toner filled in a toner cartridge, a communication apparatus to communicate with a memory chip attached to a toner refill apparatus refilling the toner in the toner cartridge, and a processor to, based on an error being found in a toner injection process for the toner cartridge by using the toner refill apparatus, store information related to the error in the toner cartridge.
