Reducing power consumption in a touch screen. In some examples, a first level of touch accuracy can be determined, and a first portion of the touch screen can be operated in a first mode corresponding to the first level of touch accuracy. In some examples, a second level of touch accuracy can be determined, and a second portion of the touch screen can be operated in a second mode corresponding to the second level of touch accuracy. The first and/or second levels of touch accuracy can be determined based on an application running on a device including the touch screen and/or a user interface displayed on the touch screen. In some examples, in the first and/or second modes, the respective portions of the touch screen can transition between a touch sensing phase and a display phase at different transition frequencies and/or can sense touch at different ratios of touch sensors.

Reducing touch sensor panel power consumption

An electronic device may include a housing and at least one coil carried by the housing. The electronic device may include a field member that includes a magnetic body having a shaft-receiving passageway therein, and at least one bearing within the shaft-receiving passageway. A shaft extends through the at least one bearing and coupled to the housing to permit reciprocal movement of the field member along the shaft and within the housing responsive to the at least one coil. A controller may be capable of powering the at least one coil to move the field member after a threshold period of non-movement.

A portable electronic device having a detection device is used to alert a user when the portable electronic device in undergoing a strain or deformation which could damage the portable electronic device. The alert includes an audible sound and/or a vibration event which signal to the user to remove the strain or deformation from the portable electronic device. The detection device may include a strain gauge attached to an enclosure of the portable electronic device. The strain gauge may output a change in electrical resistance in response to strain or deformation on the enclosure.

Disclosed herein is a plug feature for an electronic device. More specifically, the plug feature described herein is used to plug, fill or otherwise seal an aperture associated with a SIM tray of an electronic device. The plug feature may be coupled to an ejection mechanism and may extend at least partially into an aperture defined by the SIM tray and/or an aperture defined by the housing of the electronic device.

In some implementations, a mobile device can display map user interface that includes a language control that a user can select to switch between a default language and a local language. Map information presented on the map user interface can be initially displayed in the default language. The user can select or manipulate the language control to cause the map information to be presented on the local language. The local language can be determined based on the current location of the mobile device. The language control can be displayed when it has been determined that the local language is not the default language. In some implementations, when a map search has been performed using the default language, the search can be automatically performed again in the local language in response to the user switching the map information displayed on the map user interface to the local language.

An electronic device may have a housing in which a display and other components are mounted. Audio components such as a speaker and microphone and other electrical components may be mounted in an interior portion of the housing. A housing port may be formed from one or more openings that pass through the housing. The audio component or other component may be aligned with the housing port. A shutter may be interposed between the audio component and the housing port. The shutter may have an electrically controlled positioner that is used to position a movable shutter member. The shutter may be closed by placing the shutter member in a position in which the housing openings are blocked, thereby preventing intrusion of contaminants into the interior portion of the housing. The shutter may be opened by placing the shutter member in a position in which the housing openings are unblocked, thereby allowing sound to pass through the housing port.

A hard disk drive with a spindle motor that rotates a disk. When the disk drive is exposed to low temperatures a current can be provided to the spindle motor to heat the motor. For example, a DC current can be provided to the spindle motor. The current flowing through the spindle motor coil generates heat. The current can be provided for a predetermined time interval to sufficiently heat the spindle motor so that the fluid bearings of the motor can operate. The current is terminated and then an AC current is provided to the spindle motor to cause motor rotation.

This application discloses a hard disk drive and a control circuit that are configured to determine touchdown by determining the SAGC for a track, removing the repeatable component of the SAGC to create the non-repeatable component and determining an indication of clearance irregularity and/or touch down when the standard deviation of the non-repeatable component spikes. These operations may create a defect map and/or a Flying height On Demand (FOD) control table in or for the hard disk drive as products of operating the hard disk drive.

Detecting touch down and/or assessing quality in a hard disk drive

This application discloses a hard disk drive and operates it based upon using a first and third harmonic amplitude generated from reading a repeated pattern of bits written to a track on a disk surface. Both amplitudes are used to create a first data set and the third harmonic amplitude is used as a single tone to create a second data set. A conversion factor between these two is determine, which may be used to convert the first data set under other conditions into a temperature insensitive table of the electrical stimulus of a vertical micro-actuator and the flying height change of the slider. The hard disk drive may be calibrated during manufacture and/or in the field.

Method and apparatus for an air bearing surface to reduce contamination due to saturation water vapor pressure in a hard disk drive

Hard disk drive (HDD) including humidity sensor measuring interior and second humidity sensor measuring exterior with door actuator controlling door for mass transfer between interior and exterior based upon determination of whether or not to transfer. HDD may further include and use temperature sensors for interior and/or exterior to further control door. An embedded circuit and processor at least partly implementing these operations. External cover including door and door actuator, possibly second sensors. Manufacturing methods and these items as their products.

Method and apparatus intelligently adapting to environmental conditions inside and outside a hard disk drive

A disk drive that regenerates a desiccant within the drive. The drive includes a housing that encloses a head and a disk. A first desiccant is located adjacent to a hole of the housing. A second desiccant is coupled to the first desiccant. The second desiccant is also coupled to a source of heat. Heat is transferred through the second desiccant to the first desiccant. The heat evaporates fluid within the first desiccant. The evaporated fluid flows into and through the second desiccant. The evaporation of fluid regenerates the first desiccant so that is can continuously absorb humidity within the drive.

A hard disk drive including an electrical property meter sensing a spindle control signal to create an electrical property reading. Spindle control signal stimulates spindle motor to rotate at least one disk, creating rotating disk surface accessed by slider. Control circuit receives electrical property reading to create contact indication of slider contacting rotating disk surface, which may further include determining contact indication as spike in electrical property history of the readings. The electrical property meter may include ammeter and/or voltmeter. The control circuit, printed circuit board assembly, and/or motor control interface may include the electrical property meter. The control circuit may also include processor receiving electrical property reading to create contact indication. The hard disk drive may update contact log when contact indicated and may further update access parameter list for the slider accessing the rotating disk surface based upon the contact log.
