Disclosed are a driver IC and a display apparatus including the same, which supply a touch auxiliary signal, having the same phase and potential difference as those of a touch signal supplied to a touch electrode which is also used as a common electrode, to a plurality of supply lines disposed in a non-display area during a touch sensing period. The driver IC includes a common voltage supply element, a touch sensing unit, and a common voltage switching unit. The common voltage switching unit connects the common voltage supply element to a plurality of touch electrode lines connected to the plurality of touch electrodes during an image display period, and during a touch sensing period, the common voltage switching unit connects the plurality of touch electrode lines to the touch sensing unit.

In a touch display device, a controller generates a touch sync signal for controlling timing of a touch sensing period and a display period in each of a plurality of frames. A touch panel has a plurality of touch electrodes in a display area to generate touch sensing signals indicating whether or not a touch occurs during the touch sensing period. A touch sensing circuit supplies a touch drive signal to the plurality of touch electrodes during the touch sensing period and detects if the touch occurred based on the touch sensing signals received from the plurality of touch electrodes. A touch assistance line surrounds the display area and is disposed in the non-display area of the touch panel. A touch assistance signal supply circuit generates a touch assistance signal on the touch assistance line. The touch assistance signal mimics the touch drive signal during the touch sensing period.

A touch screen display device is discussed. The device uses common electrodes, which are formed for display images, as touch electrodes. In a display interval, the common electrodes receive a common voltage and allow images to be displayed. In a touch sensing interval corresponding to a non-display interval of a single frame of plural frames, the common electrodes are driven as the touch electrodes and allow a touch position to be sensed. When the touch sensing interval is terminated, the data voltages which had been applied to the data lines before the touch sensing interval are re-applied to the data lines. As such, when a succeeding display interval starts after the touch sensing interval, the reduction of charging voltage in a pixel can be prevented or reduced. Therefore, a picture fault or an image fault can be prevented.

When the panel operates a touch driving mode, the display driver IC generates a second driving pulse with the first driving pulse to apply the second driving pulse to the driving electrodes and receives the sensing signals from the respective sensing electrodes to transfer the sensing signals to the touch IC.

The display driver IC outputs a common voltage to the driving electrode and the sensing electrode in a display driving interval, outputs a reference voltage to the driving electrode during a touch non-sensing period in a touch driving interval, and outputs a driving pulse to the driving electrode to receive a sensing signal from the sensing electrode during a touch sensing period in the touch driving interval. The touch IC transfers a control signal and a selection signal for selecting the touch sensing period and the touch non-sensing period to the display driver, and senses whether there is a touch with the sensing signal and the reference voltage.
