A time sharing type autostereoscopic display apparatus and a method for driving the same are provided. The display apparatus includes a display panel; a polarization switch; and a control unit which controls the polarization switch so that each of N segments of the polarization switch is driven in synchronization with an image scanning time of the display panel corresponding to each segment, and controls the polarization switch so that a time when a driving signal is applied to an initial segment is delayed relative to a time when an image starts to be scanned after a vertical synchronization signal is applied to the display panel. The method includes controlling the display apparatus so that a time when a driving signal is applied to an initial segment delayed relative to a time when an image starts to be scanned.

Time sharing type autostereoscopic display apparatus and method for driving the same

Provided is a high resolution 2D-3D switchable autostereoscopic display apparatus including: a backlight unit emitting light; a spatial light modulator comprising a plurality of cells, the cells being arranged two-dimensionally and comprising left eye regions and right eye regions that are each independently switchable between a transparent state and an opaque state; a lenticular lens sheet separating and emitting light passed through the spatial light modulator to a left eye viewing zone and a right eye viewing zone; and an image display panel displaying an image, wherein the spatial light modulator is divided into a plurality of horizontal segments that are sequentially switched in synchronization with a vertical synchronization signal of the image display panel.

High resolution 2D-3D switchable autostereoscopic display apparatus

An autostereoscopic display apparatus includes a backlight unit, a polarizing plate disposed in front of the backlight unit; a display panel displaying a left eye image and a right eye image by interlacing pixel lines of the left and right eye images alternately and sequentially; a lenticular lens sheet, disposed between the polarizing plate and the display panel, separating light emitted from the backlight unit into a left eye zone and a right eye zone; and a polarization switch controlling a polarization direction of light proceeding towards the left eye viewing zone so that light is incident on pixel lines of the display panel displaying the left eye image and a polarization direction of light proceeding towards the right eye viewing zone so that light is incident on pixel lines of the display panel displaying the right eye image, in synchronization with a vertical scanning time of the display panel.

High resolution autostereoscopic display apparatus with interlaced image

An apparatus and method for driving a liquid crystal display to improve the quality of moving pictures are provided. The apparatus includes a transition check unit that determines whether an input image signal between a first frame and a second frame has changed and whether an input image signal between the second frame and a third frame has changed; an overdrive control unit that overdrives the input image signal in the second frame in an overdrive direction if the transition check unit determines that the input image signal between the first and second frames has changed, wherein the overdrive direction is one of an upper direction and lower direction; and an overdrive compensation unit that changes the input image signal in the third frame in an opposite direction to the overdrive direction if the transition check unit determines that the input image signal between the second and third frames has not changed.

Apparatus and method for driving liquid crystal display

A high resolution 2D-3D switchable autostereoscopic display apparatus includes: a backlight unit emitting light; a polarizer sheet changing the light emitted from the backlight unit so that the light has only a specific polarization direction; a polarization switch converting the direction of the polarization of incident light; a birefringent element array comprising a plurality of alternating first and second birefringent elements and changing the polarization direction of incident light so that the polarization of light transmitted by the first birefringent elements is perpendicular to the polarization of light transmitted by the second birefringent elements; a lenticular lens sheet separating and emitting incident light to a first eye viewing zone and a second eye viewing zone; and a display panel displaying an image.

A direct viewing type stereoscopic image display apparatus which can remove a moir&#xe9; pattern is provided. The direct viewing type stereoscopic image display apparatus includes: a first memory which has a first field image signal divided from an image signal of one frame; a second memory which has a second field image signal divided from the image signal of one frame; a display device which forms a first field image and a second field image according to the first field image signal and the second field image signal; an image shift unit which sequentially shifts the first field image and the second field image; and a viewing zone dividing unit which divides the viewing zones of the first field image and the second field image. Thereby, the second field image is shifted from the first field image by a predetermined distance and thus a moir&#xe9; pattern is removed and image quality is improved.

Direct viewing type stereoscopic image display apparatus which can remove moire pattern

A 2D and 3D image display apparatus including: a display panel forming an image by spatially modulating an input image signal; a polarization conversion device converting a polarization direction of a beam incident into the polarization conversion device according to a voltage applied in synchronization with the image signal; and a switching barrier unit including first polarization units having a first polarization direction and second polarization units having a second polarization direction in an alternate manner, and transmitting the beam passing the polarization conversion device through at least one of the first polarization unit and the second polarization unit. Therefore, a 3D image can be displayed without degrading a horizontal resolution thereof by using a combination of polarization devices with low fabrication costs, which may utilize a time-sequential display method.

A multiview autostereoscopic display includes: a backlight; a first polarized panel transmitting light having a first polarization; a first polarization switch changing the polarization of incident light; a first anisotropic device array including anisotropic devices sequentially and repeatedly arranged in a horizontal direction, such that light transmitted from neighboring anisotropic devices has perpendicular polarizations; a lenticular lens array having lenticular lens devices, arranged horizontally, which separate incident light into different directions; a second polarized panel transmitting light having a second polarization; a second anisotropic device array having anisotropic devices alternately horizontally arranged, such that the anisotropic devices transmit light having perpendicular polarizations; a second polarization switch changing the polarization of light from the lenticular lens array; a third anisotropic device array having anisotropic devices, alternately vertically arranged, such that the anisotropic devices transmit light having perpendicular polarizations; and a display panel forming an image by modulating incident light.

Multiview autostereoscopic display

A projection-type 3-D image display includes a light source, a single display element, an image shift member, a projection lens unit, and a screen unit. The display element produces an image using light emitted from the light source. The image shift member time-sequentially shifts the image. The projection lens unit enlarges and projects the time sequentially shifted image. The screen unit includes an image separation unit. The image separation unit separates the time sequentially shifted image into images for a left eye and images for a right eye. The projection-type 3-D image display can realize a 3-D image using a single projector by having the image shift member to sequentially shift the images produced by the display element.
