A liquid crystal display (LCD) includes a first substrate, a gate line and a data line disposed on the first substrate, a pixel electrode connected to the gate line and the data line, a first alignment layer disposed on the pixel electrode, a second substrate opposite to the first substrate, a common electrode disposed on the second substrate, and a second alignment layer disposed on the common electrode, in which a thickness of the first alignment layer is greater than a thickness of the second alignment layer.

Liquid crystal display and manufacturing method thereof

A liquid crystal display includes: a first insulating substrate, a second insulating substrate, a pixel electrode positioned on the first insulating substrate, a common electrode positioned on the first insulating substrate or the second insulating substrate, a first alignment layer positioned on the first insulating substrate, a second alignment layer positioned on the second insulating substrate, and a liquid crystal layer positioned between the first insulating substrate and the second insulating substrate. The first alignment layer and/or the second alignment layer include an additive and an alignment layer compound having a main chain, and a plurality of side chains connected to the main chain, and at least one of the plurality of side chains includes a vertical alignment group, and a reactive mesogen including two or more photoreactive groups.

Liquid crystal display

An alignment composition is presented that includes an alignment polymer and a reactive mesogen. The alignment polymer includes a polyimide backbone and a vertical alignment side chain combined with the polyimide backbone. The reactive mesogen may be represented by the formulaM5-M1-M2-M3-M4in which M1 represents a divalent organic group including an aromatic ring group, M2 represents M3 represents a single bond, &#x2014;O&#x2014;, &#x2014;O&#x2014;(CH)&#x2014;O&#x2014;, or &#x2014;(CH)&#x2014;O&#x2014;, wherein 'a' represents an integer of 1 to 20, M4 represents an alkenyl group or an alkynyl group having a carbon number of 2 to 20 an alkenylcarbonyl group having a carbon number of 3 to 20, an alkenylcarbonyloxy group having a carbon number of 3 to 20, a an oxotetrahydrofuryl group having &#x2014;(C&#x2550;CH)&#x2014; substituted for at least one &#x2014;CH&#x2014;, or an epoxy group. Alignment composition, liquid crystal display panel and method of manufacturing same

The present invention discloses an alignment substrate that includes a base substrate and an alignment layer arranged on the base substrate. A plurality of unit pixels is defined in the base substrate. The alignment layer includes at least two sub-alignment portions dividing the unit pixel into at least two domains. Each sub-alignment portion is arranged in a different domain of the at least two domains and is aligned to have a different pretilt direction from the other sub-alignment portions.

Alignment substrate for aligning liquid crystal molecules, liquid crystal display panel having the same, and method of manufacturing the alignment substrate

A display panel includes a lower substrate, an upper substrate and a liquid crystal layer. The liquid crystal layer includes a plurality of domains, a horizontal domain boundary texture area and a vertical domain boundary texture area. The domains are disposed in a matrix shape. The horizontal domain boundary texture area extends in a first direction in a boundary between the domains adjacent to each other in a second direction and has a slope of a liquid crystal slowly (e.g., less) inclined compared to that of the domains. The vertical domain boundary texture area extends in the second direction in a boundary between the domains adjacent to each other in the first direction and has a width larger than that of the horizontal domain boundary texture area.

Display panel, method of manufacturing the same and alignment mask for manufacturing the same

A photoalignment method includes irradiating light in a first direction to a first alignment layer, and irradiating light in a second direction opposite the first direction, after disposing a first mask on the first alignment layer.

Photoalignment method and liquid crystal display

A photo alignment material includes a photo alignment polymer and an organic solvent. The photo alignment polymer is prepared by polymerizing a diamine monomer including at least two photo reactive parts represented by the following Chemical Formula 1. In Chemical Formula 1, Rrepresents &#x2014;(CH)&#x2014;, &#x2014;O(CH)&#x2014; or R, Rand Reach independently represent &#x2014;H, &#x2014;O(CH)&#x2014;CHor and n and m independently represent an integer of from 1 to 8. Thus, change of the orientation of the alignment layer due to the action of an electric stress may be prevented and/or reduced. Therefore, an after&#x2014;image may be reduced, and display quality is improved.

Photo alignment material and method of manufacturing display substrate using the same

A photoalignment material includes an alignment polymer, a photoalignment additive including a compound represented by the following Chemical Formula 1 and an organic solvent.  In Chemical Formula 1, Rrepresents a cyclic compound. A and B independently represent a single bond or &#x2014;(CH)&#x2014;. 'n' represents an integer in a range of 1 to 12. Each &#x2014;CH&#x2014; of A and/or B may be replaced with Rrepresents an alkyl group having 1 to 12 carbon atoms, and each &#x2014;CH&#x2014; of A and/or B may be replaced with &#x2014;O&#x2014;. Rrepresents In Chemical Formula 1, each hydrogen atom excluding hydrogen atoms of Rmay be replaced with chlorine (Cl) or fluorine (F).
