A method of recording data onto an optical disk uses a write strategy that corresponds to the recording features of the optical disk. The method detects a track pitch or storage capacity of a recording medium, adjusts a write strategy according to the detected track pitch or storage capacity wherein the write strategy has been chosen to correspond to the manufacturer of the recording medium, and records input data onto the recording medium using the adjusted write strategy. Accordingly, data quality during later reproduction is improved even though it is recorded onto a non-standard disk that is larger in capacity than the standard.

Method of recording signals onto a recording medium

An apparatus and a method of determining an optimal writing power for an aged writable disk after checking whether a writable disk is aged or not, are discussed. The apparatus and method according to an embodiment read signals written on a writable disk, judge whether or not the writable disk is aged based on a signal characteristic, e.g., a level difference between the read signals before and after an equalization and jitter of the read signals, and conduct an OPC for the writable disk to obtain a precise optimal writing power if the disk is judged to be aged. The precise optimal writing power can prevent deterioration of reproduction characteristic of recorded data even though an aged writable disk is used.

Method and apparatus of detecting an optimal writing power for an aged writable disk

An apparatus includes a controller storing information on dense/sparse state of the tracking error signal in connection with characteristic of the signal generated by a phase encoder while tracking servo of a servo unit is inactivated, and, in data reproduction mode, identifying a current disk phase based on characteristic of the signal generated by the phase encoder, and adjusting tracking characteristic of the servo unit based on the stored information in connection with the signal characteristic in order to compensate an effect rate of eccentricity on the identified disk phase. Through minute adjustment of servo characteristic for each disk phase, error range of TE signal to track in real time is reduced. Therefore, tracking for an eccentric disk becomes easier and more reliable.

Apparatus of controlling tracking for a disk

The present invention relates to method and apparatus of recording an audio signal composed of several tracks on a recording medium in a manner that the tracks can be distinguished each other in a recorded audio signal. The present track-synchronous recording method detects a no-sound interval longer than a predetermined time that is included in an input audio signal during recording the input audio signal, and records an audio signal following the detected no-sound interval with a different track number from that of recorded audio signal preceding the detected no-sound interval. Therefore, it is possible to individually distinguish tracks on a copy medium even though those not having any track information are copied thereto from an original at a time.
