A digital image processing apparatus and a method of controlling the same. When the composition of a subject displayed on a display of the apparatus is changed during application of a first shutter-release signal, a current auto-focus (AF) region moves along with the subject and displayed on the display at the same time as the subject. The apparatus can further display an initial AF region on the display in a manner distinguishable from the current AF region. After the composition of the subject is changed, while the current AF region moving along with the subject is being displayed on the display, when the application of the first shutter-release signal is interrupted, an AF region is reset as the initial AF region. Also, an image file can be generated and stored after application of a second-shutter release signal which occurs after application of the first shutter-release signal.

An auto focusing method for improving an auto focusing speed by implementing auto focusing by determining a motion direction of the focus lens at a current position of the focus lens, a recording medium for recording the auto focusing method, and an auto focusing apparatus. The auto focusing method is implemented by determining a current position of a focus lens; determining whether a first image input at the current position of the focus lens has image blurring; if the current position of the focus lens is a position for long range focusing and the first image has image blurring, determining that a motion direction of the focus lens is toward longer range focusing; and if the current position of the focus lens is a position for long range focusing and the first image has image blurring, determining that the motion direction of the focus lens is toward closer range focusing.

Provided are a digital image processing apparatus for determining a focused portion in an image and showing the focused portion to a user and a method of controlling the same. The digital image processing apparatus includes a digital signal processor (DSP) which extracts the intensity of edges from an image and displays the combination of the extracted intensity of edges on the image.
