A transmitter includes: a frame generator configured to generate a frame including a frame starting symbol, at least one data symbol and a frame closing symbol; a pilot and reserved tone inserter configured to insert pilots and reserved tones in at least one of the frame starting symbol, the data symbol and the frame closing symbol such that positions of the reserved tones do not overlap positions of the pilots in the at least one of the frame starting symbol, the data symbol and the frame closing symbol; and a transmitter configured to transmit the frame in which the pilots and the reserved tones are inserted, wherein the reserved tones are not used to transmit data in the frame.

A broadcasting signal transmitting apparatus that transmits a plurality of signals through a plurality of antennas to increase a data transmission rate. The broadcasting signal transmitting apparatus includes a signal generator configured to generate the plurality of signals each of which includes at least one preamble symbol and data symbols, a frequency allocator configured to allocate a first subcarrier position of a whole frequency to a first preamble symbol included in a first signal among the plurality of signals and to allocate, by shifting a frequency position of the first subcarrier position by a preset interval, a second subcarrier position to a second preamble symbol included in a second signal among the plurality of signals, and a transmitter configured to transmit the plurality of signals through the plurality of antennas. The antennas respectively correspond to subcarrier positions allocated to the plurality of signals.

Broadcasting signal transmitting apparatus and method for controlling the same

A transmitting apparatus includes a symbol generator configured to generate a preamble symbol including signaling data and a reference signal, a frequency allocator configured to allocate first subcarriers and second subcarriers to the signaling data and the reference signal, respectively, in a frequency corresponding to the preamble symbol and map the signaling data and the reference signal to the allocated subcarriers, and a transmitter configured to transmit a signal including the preamble symbol and a data symbol, wherein the reference signal is a signal used for channel estimation or frequency offset compensation. Thus, synchronization is accurately corrected and channel estimation is achieved using the reference signal included in the preamble symbol, thereby reducing a ratio of a pilot included in a data symbol.

An apparatus and method for configuring a broadcast service data in a digital broadcasting communication system are provided. The method includes mapping a first zone, corresponding to broadcast service data of a first type, and a second zone, corresponding to broadcast service data of a second type, in a frame individually. Preferably, the broadcast service data included in the first zone and the second zone is sliced into sub-slices according to a different number of service slicings for each zone.

A transmitter and receiver of a broadcast signal and corresponding methods are provided. The transmitter includes: a preamble symbol inserter configured to insert a preamble symbol including a synchronization part and an information part into a frame; and a transmitting unit configured to transmit the frame including the preamble symbol. The synchronization part includes a plurality of first sequences for measuring frequency offset of the preamble symbol, and the information part includes a plurality of second sequences for measuring a phase shift amount of the information part.

The transmitting apparatus includes: an input processor configured to process a plurality of input streams to generate a plurality of base band frames; a bit interleaved and coded modulation (BICM) processor configured to perform forward error correction (FEC) coding, constellation mapping, and interleaving on the plurality of baseband frames; a symbol generator configured to add signaling data to the plurality of baseband frames output from the BICM processor to generate an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) symbol; and a transmitter configured to select at least one of a plurality of pilot patterns based on a fast Fourier transform (FFT) size and a guard interval fraction, insert a pilot in the OFDM symbol according to the selected pilot pattern, and transmit a stream including the pilot-inserted OFDM symbol.

An apparatus and method for transmitting a preamble in a Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) system are provided. The apparatus includes a first processor for generating a Modulation Signaling Sequence (MSS) using a plurality of received sequences, and for outputting a modulated sequence by differentially modulating the MSS. The apparatus also includes a scrambler for scrambling the modulated sequence by multiplying the modulated sequence by a scrambling sequence. A second processor receives the scrambled sequence through each allocated subcarrier, converts the received sequence into a time-domain signal, and generates and transmits the preamble.

A frame is generated. The frame includes a preamble section and a data section. The data section carries the data stream, and the preamble section carries signalling information. The frame is transmitted to a receiver. In generating the frame, the data section of the frame is segmented into a plurality of frequency zones, and at least one segment of the data stream is mapped to a frequency zone of the plurality of frequency zones. The signalling information includes first segmentation information of the data stream and second segmentation information of the plurality of frequency zones.
