Disclosed are a separator for secondary batteries with enhanced stability and a method of manufacturing the separator. The separator can prevent self-discharge which may occur when a porous non-woven fabric material is used for a separator; can perform a shutdown function at a high temperature of 200° C. or less; and can avoid even under harsh conditions of high temperatures, deterioration in stability caused by internal short-circuit of positive and negative electrodes. In particular, the separator for secondary batteries of the present invention includes a porous non-woven fabric material impregnated with a baroplastic polymer powder and pores of the porous non-woven fabric material are filled with the baroplastic polymer powder by pressing an assembly of the secondary battery.

Separator for secondary batteries with enhanced stability and method of manufacturing the same

Disclosed are a separator for secondary batteries with enhanced stability and a method of manufacturing the separator. The separator can prevent self-discharge which may occur when a porous non-woven fabric material is used for a separator; can perform a shutdown function at a high temperature of 200&#xb0; C. or less; and can avoid even under harsh conditions of high temperatures, deterioration in stability caused by internal short-circuit of positive and negative electrodes. A pouch battery having improved overcharging safety includes a CID interrupting an electrical connection between an electrode assembly and a lead tab when the pouch is expanded. When the pouch is expanded, the CID discharges gas generated inside the pouch to the outside, and at the time of overcharging a secondary battery, the CID interrupts a flow of current introduced into the secondary battery and discharges the gas generated due to the overcharging to the outside of the pouch, thereby reducing an ignition risk and improving the overcharging safety.

An overcharge safety device includes a switch electrically connecting a lead tap of a battery cell with a bus bar, and includes a guide member connected with the switch and movable as a pouch of the battery cell swells. As the pouch of the battery cell swells, the guide member moves toward the bus bar to disconnect the switch from the lead tap.

A swelling current interrupt device (CID) includes: a battery unit connection terminal configured to be fixed to a pouch; and a lead tab connection terminal configured to be fixed to the pouch and electrically connected to the battery unit connection terminal, wherein any one of the battery unit connection terminal and the lead tab connection terminal is broken by an expansion force of the pouch which is generated when the pouch expands to interrupt the electrical connection between the battery unit connection terminal and the lead tab connection terminal.

A high voltage battery for vehicles includes an anode tab that is divided into a first part placed near a battery cell and a second part placed near a terminal. A first part extension extends from the first part and is fixed to a lower pouch. A second part extension extends from the second part, comes into contact with the first part extension, and is fixed at an upper end thereof to an upper pouch. An cathode extension extends from a cathode tab and is spaced apart from the upper end of the second part extension. A cushion is interposed between the second part extension and the cathode extension, with a reference level of pressure formed in the cushion.

A battery system improving operation reliability of a swelling current interrupt device (CID) is provided. The battery system includes a cooling plate that forms an appearance of a battery in which the swelling CID interrupting a current flow is mounted and includes a swelling aperture formed therein. An electrode tab extends from an end of the battery cell for allowing flow of electricity therethrough and is composed of first and second electrode tab parts.
