An optical film includes a first pattern layer including a base part and a plurality of protruding parts disposed on the base part, and having a first refractive index, and a second pattern layer disposed on the first pattern layer and having a second refractive index greater than the first refractive index. Each of the protruding parts includes a bottom surface adjacent to the base part, an upper surface opposite to the bottom surface and parallel to the bottom surface, and a side surface disposed between the bottom surface and the upper surface. The side surface includes three or more sub-inclined surfaces, inclination angles of which are different from each other, or includes a curved surface which is convex in a direction of the second pattern layer.

Optical film and display device including the same

An optical film includes a first pattern layer including a base part and protrusion part groups on the base part and having a first refractive index, and a second pattern layer on the first pattern layer and having a second refractive index greater than the first refractive index. Each of the protrusion part groups includes first and second protrusion parts adjacent to each other. Each of the first and second protrusion parts includes a bottom surface, an upper surface, a first side surface and a second side surface. The first and second protrusion parts are symmetrical with respect to a reference line passing through a center of each of the protrusion part groups and perpendicular to the base part. The first and second protrusion parts are asymmetrical with respect to a center line passing through a center of the upper surface and perpendicular to the bottom surface.

A method of manufacturing a display panel includes providing a mother substrate in which a plurality of display cell areas is defined from which the display panel will be formed, the display cell areas arranged in along first and directions and each include a display unit cell corresponding to the display panel, and a dummy area extended along the second direction from the display unit cell dividing the mother substrate into the display unit cells each having the dummy area extended therefrom, by performing a wheel cutting process; separating the dummy area from the divided display unit cell by performing a laser cutting process; and curving the display unit cell from which the dummy area is separated, with reference to a reference axis which is parallel to the second direction, to form the display panel.

Display panel and method of manufacturing the same

Disclosed is a display device that can uniformly transmit light emitted from a light source to the entire display panel without using a light guide plate. The display device includes a display panel, a backlight assembly supplying light to the display panel, and a lower cover receiving the backlight assembly. The backlight assembly includes a light source, a circuit board mounted with the light source, and a reflection cover coupled to the circuit board to reflect light emitted from the light source and formed of a bendable plate type member.

Display device comprising the same

A display device includes a display panel, a backlight unit, and support members. The display panel displays an image, and a first edge section, a middle section, and a second edge section are defined on the display panel. The backlight unit outputs light toward the display panel. The support members are disposed between the display panel and the backlight unit corresponding to the first and second edge sections, and the support members space the display panel from the backlight unit. A spacing distance between the display panel and the backlight in each of the first and second edge sections is greater than a spacing distance between the display panel and the backlight unit in the middle section.

Display device

A light guide plate receives light and guides the light to a display panel. The light guide plate includes a body and protruding portions. The body includes a first side surface disposed adjacent to the light source, a second side surface facing the first side surface, and an upper surface. Protruding portions are protruded from the upper surface. Each of the protruding portions includes first and second protruding portions sequentially arranged from the first side surface to the second side surface. A width of the first protruding portion in a direction substantially parallel to the first side surface becomes smaller as a distance from the first side surface becomes larger, and a width of the second protruding portion in the direction substantially parallel to the first side surface becomes larger as the distance from the first side surface becomes larger.

Backlight unit and display apparatus having the same

A display device includes a light source, a mirror reflection guide member, a diffusion reflection member, and a display panel. The light source extends in a first direction and is configured to emit light. The mirror reflection guide member is configured to: support the light source, and guide at least some of the light to a second direction substantially perpendicular to the first direction. The mirror reflection guide member includes a plurality of guide patterns extending in the second direction and arranged in the first direction. The diffusion reflection member is configured to guide at least some of the light to a third direction substantially perpendicular to the first and second directions. The display panel is disposed on the mirror reflection guide member and the diffusion reflection member and is configured to display an image using the light guided by the diffusion reflection member.

A backlight assembly includes a plurality of point light sources, a light guide plate ('LGP') and a printed circuit board ('PCB'). The LGP has a light incident face in which light is incident, a side surface extending from an edge portion of the light incident face, and a fixing groove which is formed from the side surface toward an inner portion thereof. The PCB includes a point light source disposing portion in which the point light sources are disposed along a first direction, an extending portion extending from the point light disposing portion along a second direction substantially perpendicular to the first direction, and a protrusion which is fixed at an end portion of the extending portion. The protrusion of the PCB is coupled with the fixing groove of the LGP.

Backlight assembly

Provided is a backlight unit including a printed circuit board, a light-emitting diode package, a diffusion plate, and a reflection sheet. The light-emitting diode package including a light-emitting part configured to generate a first light. The diffusion plate includes a first diffusion pattern provided on a first region corresponding to the light-emitting diode package and a second diffusion pattern provided on a second region to have a transmittance higher than that of the first diffusion pattern. The reflection sheet includes an absorption pigment configured to absorb a fraction of the first light with a specific wavelength and converting the first light to a second light, and the reflection sheet is configured to reflect the second light toward the first diffusion pattern. The backlight unit can have improved color coordinate uniformity.

Backlight unit

A display device according to an embodiment of the invention includes a display member configured to display images, a light source member configured to generate light, and a light guiding member disposed between the light source member and the display member. The light guiding member is configured to guide the light to the display member. The display member, the light source member, and the light guiding member are integrated as a single unit. The light source member generates blue light. The light guiding member includes a light guide layer and a fluorescent layer disposed on a top surface or a bottom surface of the light guide layer. The fluorescent layer is configured to convert the blue light into white light.

Display device and method of manufacturing the same

An optical structure includes a body facing a light emitting surface of a light emitting diode package and including a portion protruding toward the light emitting surface of the light emitting diode package, where a surface of the protruding portion faces the light emitting surface and forms a reflective surface of the optical structure; and a leg elongated from a periphery of the body toward the point light source, where the leg supports the body to be spaced apart from the light emitting diode package.

Optical structure and backlight unit

A backlight assembly includes a light guide plate, a light source, a mold and a main frame. The light guide plate includes a first surface and a second surface extending from the first surface. The light source is disposed adjacent to the first surface of the light guide plate. The mold includes an upper portion, a lower portion and a side portion. The side portion connects to the upper and lower portions to form a receiving space, and the receiving space receives the light source and the first surface of the light guide plate. The main frame includes side walls and an upper wall extending from an upper portion of the side walls, and the mold is disposed in an opening below the upper wall.
