An ophthalmic device includes an optic including an optic axis and a closed-loop haptic structure coupled to the optic via a frame surrounding the optic, the closed-loop haptic structure including a closed loop extending from first and second attachment points to the frame. The closed loop includes a first hinge and a second hinge. The first hinge has a first section having a first component extending in a first angular direction, a second section having a second component extending in a second angular direction opposite to the first angular direction, and a first connecting section between the first section and the second section. The second hinge has a third section having a third component extending in the second angular direction, a fourth section having a fourth component extending in the first angular direction, the fourth section being connected to the second section to form the closed loop.

Intraocular lens having closed-loop haptic structures

A method and system provide an ophthalmic device including an optic and a haptic. The optic includes at least one optical material having a first Young's modulus. The haptic is coupled with the optic. The haptic includes at least a second Young's modulus greater than the first Young's modulus and less than 1.8 GPa. Thus, the haptic is stiffer than the optic, but more flexible than a material such as polymethyl metacrylate (PMMA).

A capsular ring for insertion into a capsular bag of a patient's eye includes an anterior ring defining a first opening and having a first cross-sectional width and a posterior ring defining a second opening and having a second cross-sectional width. A diameter of the first opening is greater than a diameter of the second opening, and the second cross-sectional width is greater that the first cross-sectional width. The capsular ring further includes a sidewall connecting the first ring and the second ring, the sidewall comprising a plurality of orifices spaced circumferentially around the sidewall.

Asymmetric capsular ring for inhibiting capsular opacification

A capsular ring includes substantially circular anterior and posterior surfaces each defining a central void of the capsular ring, at least a portion of the anterior and posterior surfaces being substantially flat. The capsular ring further includes an exterior surface extending around the circumference of the capsular ring between the anterior surface and the posterior surface, wherein there is a sharp transition between the exterior surface and both the anterior surface and the posterior surface. The capsular ring further includes a plurality of orifices spaced circumferentially around the exterior surface and a plurality of haptics spaced circumferentially around the exterior surface and extending outwardly from the capsular ring; each of the plurality of haptics being configured, upon insertion of the capsular ring into a capsular bag of a patient's eye, to engage an equatorial region of the capsular bag of the patient's eye.

Capsular ring with improved fixation and centering

Disclosed herein is an implantable capsule expander device for insertion within a lens capsule of an eye of a patient. The device comprises an arcuate center portion including first and second rims and having a first height, an outermost peripheral portion including a second height that is less than the first height, and a receiving portion formed between the first and second rims. The center portion and the outermost peripheral portion are configured to stabilize the capsule expander device within the lens capsule and to expand the lens capsule. The receiving portion is sized to receive an artificial intraocular lens.

Capsule expander devices, systems, and methods for inhibiting capsular opacification and stabilizing the capsule

A tool handle including: a body configured to receive a handle of a tool; a hand grip extending approximately perpendicular from the body; and an arm ring rotatably disposed on the body, wherein the arm ring is adapted to be placed in at least two positions, a first position in which the arm ring is generally perpendicular to the hand grip such that a user may place the user's forearm through the arm ring to grasp the hand grip and a second position in which the arm ring is generally parallel to the hand grip so as to minimize the width of the tool handle.
