In a method of operating an image sensor, a noise voltage of a floating diffusion region is sampled after a reset voltage is applied to the floating diffusion region. A storage region, in which a photo-charge is stored, is electrically connected to the floating diffusion region after sampling the noise voltage, and a demodulation voltage of the floating diffusion region is sampled after the storage region and the floating diffusion region are electrically-connected. A voltage is determined based on the noise voltage and the demodulation voltage.

Method and apparatus for jointly controlling transmit power in cognitive radio communication system

A method for selecting a relay mode depending on channel status of relay links in a multihop relay broadband wireless communication system and a Relay Station (RS) apparatus for supporting the method. When signals are received from a Base Station (BS) and a Mobile Station (MS), channel status values (e.g., eigenvalue, mutual information, and probability error) of relay links (BS-RS link and RS-MS link) are estimated using the received signals. The estimated channel status values are compared with a preset reference value. According to a result of the comparison, the relay mode for relaying the received signals is selected. Accordingly, the reliability of the relayed signal can be enhanced and the capacity of the signal link can be increased.

A method and system for transmitting/receiving data in a heterogeneous communication system. A terminal accesses a first controller of a first communication system supporting a first communication service to make a communication path to the first communication system. After making the communication path to the terminal, the first controller determines whether it is possible to provide the first communication service to the terminal over the first communication system. If it is not possible, the first controller transmits to an interworking unit a first request indicating that the terminal requires the first communication service over the second communication system. The interworking unit transmits a second request to a second controller of the second communication system in response to the first request, the second request indicating that the second controller provides the first communication service to the terminal. Upon receiving a response to the second request, the interworking unit controls the first controller to provide the first communication service to the terminal over the second communication system according to the response.

Method and system for transmitting and receiving data in a heterogeneous communication system

Automatic Repeat reQuest (ARQ) apparatus and method of a Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO system are provided. The ARQ method includes decoding, when one or more packets are received, the received packets and trying to detect the decoded packets; and storing, when error is detected from the packets, the corresponding error packet, requesting a transmitter to retransmit N-ary packets from which the error is detected and to transmit (M-N)-ary new packets when the number of the error packets N is smaller than the total number of the transmitted packets M. Accordingly, the error rate of the retransmitted data can be minimized, the number of retransmissions can be decreased, and the overall data transmission rate can be raised.

An apparatus and method for signal detection in a Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) system are provided, in which in a transmitter, a first preamble sequence generator generates preamble sequences, a low-Peak-to-Average Power Ratio (PAPR) preamble sequence selector selects a first low-PAPR preamble sequence from among the generated preamble sequences, a preamble sequence copier copies the first low-PAPR preamble sequence at least once and outputs the first low-PAPR preamble sequence and the at least one copy, a complex conjugator generates preamble sequences orthogonal to the first low-PAPR preamble sequence and the at least one copy by calculating complex conjugates of the first low-PAPR preamble sequence and the at least one copy, and a second preamble sequence generator generates at least one second low-PAPR preamble sequence using the first low-PAPR preamble sequence.
