A liquid crystal display includes: a first insulation substrate; a second insulation substrate facing the first insulation substrate; a liquid crystal layer between the first insulation substrate and the second insulation substrate; a pixel electrode on the first insulation substrate; a first alignment layer on the pixel electrode; a cross-linking portion where separation type of reactive mesogens in a surface of the first alignment layer are coupled with one another; a common electrode between the liquid crystal layer and the second insulation substrate; and a second alignment layer between the liquid crystal layer and the common electrode; and wherein liquid crystal molecules to be adjacent to the first alignment layer and liquid crystal molecules to be adjacent to the second alignment layer have different pre-tilt angles, and wherein at least one of the separation type of reactive mesogens is coupled with an ammonium-based material.

Liquid crystal display and manufacturing method thereof

A liquid crystal display includes: a first substrate and a pixel electrode thereon, a second substrate facing the first substrate and a common electrode thereon; at least one alignment layer on at least one of the pixel electrode and the common electrode; and a liquid crystal layer between the pixel electrode and the common electrode. A pixel including the pixel electrode includes a plurality of domains including a first domain. The domains have average orientations of the liquid crystal molecules different from each other. The pixel electrode has a first opening in the first domain, and the first opening extends substantially parallel to an edge of the pixel electrode.

Liquid crystal display

A curved display device includes a display substrate, an opposite substrate, and a liquid crystal layer interposed between the display substrate and the opposite substrate. The display substrate is curved along a first direction and includes a pixel electrode and a second alignment layer disposed on the pixel electrode. The opposite substrate is coupled to the display substrate to be curved along the first direction and includes a common electrode and a first alignment layer disposed on the common electrode. The first alignment layer comprises different material from the second alignment layer. The pixel electrode includes branch portions extending in a direction inclined with respect to the first direction when viewed in a plan view, and a pitch, which is defined by a sum of a width of each branch portion and a distance between the branch portions, is within a range from about 7.5 micrometers to about 8.5 micrometers.

Curved display device

An exemplary embodiment of the present invention provides a liquid crystal display including a first insulation substrate. A pixel electrode is disposed on the first insulation substrate. A first alignment layer is disposed on the pixel electrode. A second insulation substrate faces the first insulation substrate. A common electrode is disposed on a surface of the second insulation substrate, which the surface of the second insulation substrate faces the first insulation substrate. A second alignment layer is disposed on a surface of the common electrode, which the surface of the common electrode faces the first insulation substrate. A liquid crystal layer is disposed between the first alignment layer and the second alignment layer. The liquid crystal layer includes liquid crystal molecules. Liquid crystal molecules adjacent to at least one of the first alignment layer and the second alignment layer have a pre-tilt angle. At least one of the first alignment layer and the second alignment layer has an ion inductor.

Liquid crystal display device having upper and lower alignment layers

A liquid crystal display having a curved surface includes: a display panel including a first display panel, a second display panel, and a liquid crystal layer interposed therebetween and including liquid crystal molecules. The first display panel includes a first substrate on which a plurality of gate lines and data lines are formed, a first electrode, and a pixel electrode. The second display panel includes a second substrate facing the first substrate and a second electrode. The liquid crystal display further includes a common voltage supplier applying two voltages having a predetermined voltage difference to the first and second electrodes within a period before a frame displaying an image on the display panel; a gate driver applying a gate signal to each of the gate lines after the period; and a data driver applying a data voltage to the pixel electrode corresponding to the gate signal.

Liquid crystal display and driving method thereof

A display device may include a common electrode, a first pixel electrode, a second pixel electrode, an insulation layer, and a liquid crystal layer. The first pixel electrode overlaps the common electrode. The second pixel electrode is electrically connected to the first pixel electrode and is positioned between the first pixel electrode and the common electrode. A first portion of the second pixel electrode does not overlap the first pixel electrode in a direction perpendicular to the common electrode. A second portion of the second pixel electrode overlaps a first portion of the first pixel electrode. A second portion of the first pixel electrode does not overlap the second pixel electrode in the direction perpendicular to the common electrode. The insulating layer is positioned between the first pixel electrode and the second pixel electrode. The liquid crystal layer is positioned between the common electrode and the second pixel electrode.

Liquid crystal display device

A liquid crystal display according to an exemplary embodiment of the present system and method includes: a first substrate; a thin film transistor disposed on the first substrate; a passivation layer disposed on the thin film transistor and including a first portion and a second portion thicker than the first portion; a first sub-pixel electrode and a second sub-pixel electrode disposed on the passivation layer, spaced apart from each other, and positioned on one pixel region; a second substrate facing the first substrate; and a liquid crystal layer positioned between the first substrate and the second substrate, wherein the first sub-pixel electrode is disposed on the second portion of the passivation layer, and the second sub-pixel electrode is disposed on the first portion of the passivation layer.

A liquid crystal display according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention includes a first insulation substrate and a pixel electrode disposed on the first insulation substrate. A first alignment layer is disposed on the pixel electrode. A second insulation substrate faces the first insulation substrate. A common electrode is disposed on a surface of the second insulation substrate facing the first insulation substrate. A second alignment layer is disposed on a surface of the common electrode facing the first insulation substrate. One of the first alignment layer and the second alignment layer has an electron-rich group and the other has an electron-deficient group.

Liquid crystal display having different upper and lower alignment layers

A liquid crystal display includes: a first substrate; a pixel electrode disposed on the first substrate; a second substrate facing the first substrate; a common electrode disposed on the second substrate; and a liquid crystal layer disposed between the first substrate and the second substrate. The common electrode includes a first cross-shaped cutout overlapping the pixel electrode, and a second cutout parallel to an edge of the pixel electrode, the second cutout being separated from the edge of the pixel electrode.

A liquid crystal display device includes a first substrate, a first alignment layer on the first substrate, a second substrate facing the first substrate, a second alignment layer on the second substrate, and a liquid crystal layer between the first substrate and the second substrate and including liquid crystal molecules. The first alignment layer and the second alignment layer include a polymer including at least of polyamic acid, polyimide, and a combination including at least one of the foregoing polymers, and a compound including an epoxy cross-linker represented by Chemical Formula 1.

Liquid crystal aligning agent and liquid crystal display device

A liquid crystal display includes a first substrate, a second substrate disposed opposite to the first substrate; a pixel electrode disposed on the first substrate; a common electrode disposed on the second substrate; and a liquid crystal layer disposed between the first substrate and the second substrate, where a first cutout having a cross shape is defined in the common electrode, a second cutout is defined in the pixel electrode to be adjacent to and along an edge of the pixel electrode, and the pixel electrode has a step structure, a boundary line of which is in a rhombus shape.
