Methods, systems, apparatuses, and computer program products provide network function selection for user equipment via a gateway network node. In an implementation, a single-network slice selection assistance information (S-NSSAI) list is received from a user equipment (UE). Additionally, it is determined whether a network node does not support a non-access stratum node selection function for the UE. Based on a determination that the network node does not support the non-access stratum node selection function for the UE, an initial UE message configured with an information element for the S-NSSAI list is generated, and the initial UE message is caused to be transmitted to a gateway network node to select a core network function for the UE.

Described is an approach for managing network capabilities for a user equipment (UE). A UE can maintain subscriber data that comprises an entry index of networks for which various access modes are enabled/disabled, and a counter for each network/access mode combination. After requesting access to a network, the UE may receive a non-integrity protected rejection message that indicates the network does not allow a particular access mode. Based on the cause of access rejection, the UE can disallow the particular access mode for the network, start a timer, and increment a counter associated with the network/access mode combination. Once the timer expires, if the counter value is below a threshold the UE re-enables the particular access mode for the network, or if the counter value is at or above the threshold, the UE removes the respective entry index for the particular access mode for the network.

A method, apparatus and computer program product are provided herein to provide a Protocol Data Unit (PDU) session priority parameter. For example, a method is provided that comprises identifying a need in a user equipment (UE) for establishing a new protocol data unit PDU session. The method also includes evaluating whether to establish a new PDU session and determining whether to establish a new PDU session based on a PDU session priority parameter when a maximum number of PDU sessions the UE can establish in the network is reached.

The user equipment may indicate the emergency services fallback within the registration request message to a network entity, such as the access and mobility management function. Methods, apparatuses, and computer program products are provided for handling session requests for emergency services. Updated closed access group (CAG) configuration information can be provided to user equipment (UE) requesting an emergency session with a public land mobile network (PLMN), and the UE may update their CAG information or discontinue its session request. When the PLMN determines that the UE's session request to the PLMN was sent via a non-CAG cell, the PLMN may then determine if the session request is for emergency services, in which case the PLMN may decide to not clear or reject the session request, while if the PLMN determines that the session request via the non-CAG cell is for non-emergency services, then the PLMN may clear or reject the session request. When a session request is rejected by the PLMN, the UE may enter a deregistered state and conduct a search for a new PLMN.
