An electron emission display, including an electron emission unit on a first substrate, a light emission unit on a second substrate, the second substrate affixed to the first substrate and having the electron emission unit and the light emission unit positioned therebetween, and a plurality of spacers disposed between the first and second substrates, wherein each spacer of the plurality of spacers includes a spacer body and at least one coating layer disposed on the spacer body, and wherein each spacer of the plurality of spacers satisfies the proviso that 0.02&#x3c;&#x3c1;2/&#x3c1;1&#x3c;100, where &#x3c1;1 is a specific resistivity of an outer-most coating layer disposed on the spacer body and &#x3c1;2 is a specific resistivity of an element in direct contact with the outer-most coating layer.

Electron emission display with spacers

A field emission display including a first substrate and a second substrate opposing one another with a predetermined gap therebetween. An electron emission assembly is formed on the first substrate that emits electrons by the formation of an electric field. An illumination assembly is formed on the second substrate that realizes the display of images by the emitted electrons. A grid plate is mounted between the first and second substrates and functions to focus the emitted electrons. The grid plate includes a mask section having a plurality of apertures for passing the electrons, and supports mounted to one side of the mask section and extending in a direction toward the first substrate to rest on the same and support the mask section. The mask section and the supports are made of same material or two different materials.

Field emission display having grid plate with multi-layered structure

A field emission display includes a first substrate, at least one gate electrode formed on the first substrate, cathode electrodes formed on the first substrate, an insulation layer formed between the at least one gate electrode and the cathode electrodes, emitters electrically contacting the cathode electrodes, and formed in pixel regions of the first substrate, counter electrodes electrically connected to the at least one gate electrode and provided such that the counter electrodes and emitters have a first predetermined gap therebetween, a second substrate provided opposing the first substrate with a second predetermined gap therebetween, wherein emitter-receiving sections are provided in the cathode electrodes, dividers are formed between the emitter-receiving sections, the emitters are electrically contacted with an edge of the cathode electrodes corresponding to a shape of the emitter-receiving sections, and at least a part of each of the counter electrodes is provided within the corresponding emitter-receiving sections.

Field emission display having emitter arrangement structure capable of enhancing electron emission characteristics

Disclosed is a flat panel display device for preventing a grid electrode from causing alignment error and being distorted due to thermal expansion and contraction. The grid electrode includes a mask portion with apertures through which electrons may pass, and fixtures arranged external to the mask portion with a predetermined margin for allowing thermal expansion and contraction of the mask portion. The fixtures are arranged symmetrical to each other up and down as well as left and right. The fixtures fix the mask portion such that the expansion and the extraction of the mask portion proceed opposite to one another.
