A twisted nematic liquid crystal display device includes a first substrate, a plurality of gate lines and a plurality of data lines formed on the first substrate, a plurality of pixels connected to the gate lines and the data lines and each pixel having a first subpixel and a second subpixel, a first subpixel electrode formed in the first subpixel, and a second subpixel electrode formed in the second subpixel. The voltage of the first subpixel electrode is greater than the voltage of the second subpixel electrode, and a ratio of the area of the second subpixel electrode to the area of the first subpixel electrode is in the range of 0.66 to 1.5.

Twisted nematic liquid crystal display device

A pair of polarizers having different polarization efficiencies is employed for a display device. With such a pair of polarizers, the brightness may increase without deteriorating the contrast.

Display device

In a voltage generating circuit and a display apparatus, a driving voltage generator receives an input voltage to output a first driving voltage and a second driving voltage that is inversely proportional to a temperature in response to a feedback voltage. A temperature compensator generates the feedback voltage as a function of the temperature and the second driving voltage and applies it to the driving voltage generator. A gate-on voltage generator pumps the second driving voltage to generate a gate-on voltage, and a gamma voltage generator outputs a plurality of gamma voltages, each having a different voltage level that is disposed between the first driving voltage and a ground voltage. The gate-on voltage, which is inversely proportional to the temperature, is applied to the gate driver, and the gamma voltages, which are maintained at constant levels, prevent the response speed of the display apparatus from varying with temperature.

LCD voltage generating circuits

An array substrate includes a lower substrate, a switching element and a pixel electrode. In the lower substrate, unit pixel areas are each divided into a plurality of domains. The switching element is disposed on the lower substrate and transmits a pixel signal. The pixel electrode is disposed on the unit pixel area and is electrically connected to the switching element. The pixel electrode includes a plurality of slit portions disposed thereon. A portion of the slit portions is longitudinally extended in a zigzag shape along different directions in correspondence with the domains.

A liquid crystal display (LCD) which can be driven at a low voltage and has a fast response time. The LCD includes a liquid crystal composition interposed between a first substrate and a second substrate, wherein the liquid crystal composition includes a first polar liquid crystal compound and a second polar liquid crystal compound, each in an amount of 20% or less by weight based on a weight of the liquid crystal composition, wherein the first polar liquid crystal compound is represented by and the second polar liquid crystal compound is represented by at least one of where each of R1, R2, and R3, and R4 independently is an alkyl group, an alkoxy group, or an alkenyl group having about 2 to about 15 carbon atoms.
