A reflectivity correction method using a double polarization variable-based bright band detection result includes a preprocessing operation for correcting a double polarization variable observation error and calculating a depolarization ratio; a fuzzy classifier generation operation for calculating a weighting and a membership function of each characteristic variable using a bright band height extracted from a quasi-vertical profile generated from specific elevation angle data, a bright band detection operation for detecting a bright band using a depolarization ratio and a fuzzy classifier for each elevation angle, and a reflectivity correction operation for correcting reflectivity over-observation for a detected bright band region on the basis of a correction factor calculated using an apparent profile of reflectivity generated by averaging reflectivity data for the bright band region for each elevation angle. Thus, it is possible to improve the accuracy of precipitation estimation by using the corrected reflectivity.

A method for retrieval of lost radial velocity in weather radar includes expanding a radial velocity area to non-meteorological echoes including sea clutter and chaff echo using raw radar data for use of a wind field calculation area, correcting radial velocity by replacing the radial velocity determined as noise using a median sign comparison method with a median calculated within a window to which the radial velocity belongs, distinguishing a lost radial velocity area by comparing the corrected radial velocity with radar reflectivity data, and retrieving lost radial velocity using a Velocity Azimuth Display (VAD) fit function representing radial velocity of particles observed along a radar radiation source at a certain elevation in the lost radial velocity area as a function of an azimuth angle. Accordingly, it is possible to improve the quality of calculated wind field using the improved radar radial velocity, and provide more accurate dynamic structure information of the precipitation system.

A precipitation nowcasting method using dynamic motion vectors includes calculating a multiscale motion vector of a radar precipitation motion vector and a numerical model precipitation motion vector by changing spatial scale of cross correlation analysis for reach of a preset time interval from precipitation data obtained through a dual polarization radar, calculating a dynamic motion vector by merging the radar precipitation motion vector and the numerical model precipitation motion vector, generating a precipitation development and dissipation map through precipitation tracking and matching using the dynamic motion vector, and outputting a precipitation forecast field for each forecast time by applying the dynamic motion vector and the precipitation development and dissipation map to Lagrangian backward extrapolation. Accordingly, it is possible to achieve realistic precipitation forecast field simulation.

A method for monitoring a real-time calibration bias in radar reflectivity includes monitoring a radar reflectivity change by calculating a relative bias of reflectivity based on the change in reflectivity to ground echo reflectivity of a specific time, estimating calibration bias in reflectivity from the relative bias of reflectivity and a differential phase based on self-consistency between dual-polarimetric variables during a rainfall period, verifying the calibration bias in reflectivity by calculating a reflectivity mean bias through comparison of reflectivity of an overlapping area between two adjacent radars in a radar observation network by applying the estimated calibration bias to each of the two adjacent radars, and recalculating the calibration bias in reflectivity when the reflectivity mean bias between the two adjacent radars is larger than a first threshold. Accordingly, it is possible to provide the calibrated reflectivity data in real-time.

Disclosed are an apparatus for selecting a radar installation site for configuring a radar observation network and a method thereof. That is, according to the present invention, an optimal radar observation site is selected through a digital elevation model, GIS information, a beam shield simulation, a propagation environment survey, etc., to collect higher accurate radar data and shorten a time required for a radar installation preliminary survey, etc.
