The plasma display panel includes a front substrate; a rear substrate arranged to face the front substrate, a dielectric layer arranged between the front and the rear substrates and at least a portion of the dielectric layer having a first color, plurality of barrier ribs arranged between the front and the rear substrates and at least a portion of the plurality of barrier ribs having a second color, plurality of light absorbing layers arranged between the front substrate and the plurality of barrier ribs, wherein the first and the second colors are subtractive-mixed with each other. Accordingly, it is possible to reduce outdoor daylight reflection and improve image contrast.

A Plasma Display Panel (PDP) includes: a rear substrate; address electrodes arranged in predetermined intervals over the rear substrate; a rear dielectric layer arranged to cover the address electrodes; barrier ribs arranged to partition discharge spaces on the rear dielectric layer; phosphor layers arranged in the discharge spaces; a front substrate arranged over and facing the rear substrate; and sustain electrodes arranged orthogonal to the address electrodes under the front substrate. Plasma display panels (PDPs) that can be readily manufactured and that have increased bright room contrast ratios are provided. One PDP includes a front substrate adapted to allow visible light to pass, a rear substrate facing the front substrate, and a plurality of barrier ribs disposed between the front substrate and the rear substrate defining a plurality of discharge cells. At least a portion of the barrier ribs is colored with a first color. The PDP further comprises a plurality of sustain electrodes disposed on the front substrate facing the rear substrate, each of which has a plurality of electrode parts. The PDP also includes a front dielectric layer disposed on the front substrate covering the sustain electrodes. The front dielectric layer is colored with a second color. Brightness and chroma of both of the first and second colors are reduced when the first and second colors are subtractively mixed.

A plasma display panel having improved contrast without needing an additional manufacturing process includes: a transparent front substrate, a rear substrate arranged on a lower portion of the front substrate; sustain electrode pairs arranged parallel to each other and located between the front substrate and the rear substrate; a transparent first dielectric layer covering the sustain electrode pairs; address electrodes crossing the sustain electrode pairs and arranged between the sustain electrode pairs and the rear substrate; a second dielectric layer of a light absorbing color covering the address electrodes; transparent partition walls arranged on the second dielectric layer and defining light emitting cells; phosphor layers arranged in the light emitting cells; and a discharge gas filling the light emitting cells.

Plasma display panel (PDP) with multiple dielectric layers

In a PDP apparatus a first protrusion is formed in the column direction at a scan electrode. A second protrusion is formed in the column direction at a sustain electrode. The first and second protrusions face each other with a protrusion gap therebetween. An area of the first protrusion is greater than that of the second protrusion. A first sustain pulse is applied to the scan electrode and a second sustain pulse is applied to the sustain electrode in a sustain interval. In an exemplary embodiment a first interval during which a voltage of the first sustain pulse is less than that of the second sustain pulse is longer than a second interval during which a voltage of the first sustain pulse is greater than that of the second sustain pulse.

Plasma display apparatus with differing size protrusion electrodes

A design for a plasma display panel that both reduces the capacitance between adjacent address electrodes while improving the optical characteristics of the display. This is achieved by having a layer formed on the rear substrate over the address electrodes being made of two separately patterned substances. The two substances have different dielectric constants while different optical properties. Preferably, the visible light generated in the phosphor layer of the display is reflected off the layer formed over the rear substrate and then transmitted through the front substrate.

Structure for a plasma display panel that reduces capacitance between electrodes

A plasma display panel is provided. The plasma display panel includes a front substrate, an X electrode and a Y electrode alternately formed on the front substrate, a dielectric layer formed to cover the X and Y electrodes, a rear substrate installed to face the front substrate, address electrodes formed on the rear substrate and intersecting the X and Y electrodes, barrier ribs formed between the front and rear substrates, and red, green, and blue fluorescent layers applied in discharge cells defined by the barrier ribs. The dielectric layer and the barrier ribs are colored with two complementary colors that essentially filter out nearly all light. Accordingly, it is possible to reduce outdoor daylight reflection and improve image contrast by an improved design over the use of black stripes.

A plasma display panel. A first substrate and a second substrate are provided at a predetermined distance from the first substrate and form a vacuum assembly with the first substrate. Barrier ribs form pixels between the first substrate and the second substrate such that subpixels forming one grouping of pixels are arranged in a triangular configuration. A plurality of address electrodes is formed on a surface of the first substrate facing the second substrate and along a first direction of the first substrate. A plurality of discharge sustain electrodes is formed on a surface of the second substrate facing the first substrate and along a first direction of the second substrate. If a length of a line passing through a center of the subpixels and interconnecting two opposing corners of the subpixels is (c), and if a length of a line extending between two adjacent corners is (b), the subpixels are formed such that a (b) to (c) ratio is between 1:1.5 and 1:5.
