A deck mechanism for a magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus, wherein its fixed base plate and its slide base are slidably coupled to each other without defining a space therebetween. Elements of a tape traveling system are arranged on upper and lower surfaces of the fixed base plate and the upper surface of the slide base. The upper surface of the fixed base plate is mounted with the head drum, a loading motor, a supply slant post assembly, a take-up slant post assembly, a stabilizer, pinch roller arm-driving and pressing mechanisms, a head cleaning mechanism, a capstan shaft of a capstan, all being upwardly protruded from the upper surface of the fixed base plate. The upper surface of the slide base is mounted with a supply reel table, a take-up reel table, a tension adjusting mechanism, and a brake, all being upwardly protruded from the upper surface of the slide base. The lower surface of the fixed base plate is mounted with a power transmission system for the loading motor, a rotor magnet of a capstan motor, an idler mechanism, and a mode sensing mechanism. The deck mechanism of the present invention can be reduced in volume, total height and in number of elements used. As a result, it is possible to provide products with light, thin, simple and compact construction and reduce the manufacture cost.

A head drum protector for a magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus, such as a slide type camera recorder. The head drum protector is preferably integrated and comprises a head drum protecting wall for protecting a rotary head drum, an opening provided at the lower section of the head drum protecting wall to receive a head base of the rotary head drum and to bring the rotary head protector into engagement with the head base. A pair of support blades extend outwardly from opposite sides of the protecting wall to enlarge the head drum protecting area of the head drum protecting wall and to support an opened tape cassette door. A sensor holder is provided at the lower front of the protecting wall to hold a LED sensor used as a tape end sensor. At a lower section between the protecting wall and the support blade, a fixing part is provided in order to mount the head drum protector on the slide base of the deck mechanism.

A brake device for magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus, such as a slide loading type camera recorder. The supply reel brake unit includes a supply reel brake having an operating pin, and a mode switch gear having an operating protrusion pushing the operating pin in a tape running mode, thereby releasing the tape supply reel table. In addition, the supply reel brake unit may comprise a drive cam gear, a supply reel brake cooperating with the drive cam gear to selectively brake the tape supply reel table. The take-up reel brake unit includes a clutch gear engaging with the reel gear of the tape take-up reel table, a take-up reel brake having a rotation limit lever limiting the rotation of the brake in cooperation with the guide pin of the stationary base plate, a latch of the brake selectively engaging with the reel gear of the tape take-up reel table to brake the take-up reel table, and a stop pin of the take-up reel brake received by the slit of the slide base to separate the latch of the brake from the reel gear of the tape take-up reel table in a tape loading operation, thereby releasing the tape take-up reel table.

A tape tension control device for a video cassette tape recorder includes first and second band fixing members for fixing a band, the second fixing member moved by a plate, and a tension arm fixed with a tension post, whereby by slight turning of the second band fixing member by the plate, a tape runs in the review mode while contacting the tension post so that the tape tension is uniformly controlled and maintained.
