The present description relates to a polymerizable liquid crystal compound, a polymerizable liquid crystal composition including the same, and an optically anisotropic body. The polymerizable liquid crystal compound includes a radical derived from the first liquid crystal molecule including a mesogen group having a non-aromatic ring; a radical derived from the second liquid crystal molecule including a mesogen group that has a structure different from said mesogen group having a non-aromatic ring and includes a ring containing a double bond; and a linker that has a specific structure and links the sp3-hybridized carbon in the non-aromatic ring of the radical derived from the first liquid crystal molecule and the sp2-hybridized carbon in the mesogen group of the radical derived from the second liquid crystal molecule, wherein at least one of the radicals derived from the first and the second liquid crystal molecules may include one or more polymerizable groups which are connected to the mesogen group directly or via spacer groups. Such polymerizable liquid crystal compound makes it possible to exhibit stable reverse wavelength dispersion solely or by being mixed with other liquid crystal materials.

Provided are a photoreactive polymer that includes a multi-cyclicmulticyclic compound at as its main chain and a method of preparing the same. The photoreactive polymer exhibits excellent thermal stability since it includes a multi-cyclicmulticyclic compound having a high glass transition temperature at as its main chain. In addition, the photoreactive polymer has a relatively large vacancy so that a photoreactive group can move relatively freely in the main chain therein. As a result, a slow photoreaction rate, which is a disadvantage of a conventional polymer material used to form an alignment layer for a liquid crystal display device, can be overcome.

According to the method of the present invention, a high molecular weight cyclic olefin addition polymer can be produced in a high yield even when using a polar functional group-containing cyclic olefin monomer. A polymer produced using the method shows good thermal stability.

Provided is a metal catalyst complex for preparing a cyclic olefin-based polymer by addition polymerization of a cyclic olefin-based monomer, which is represented by Formula 1 below:[M(L)(L')(L)][Ani]&#x2003;&#x2003;&#x3c;Formula 1&#x3e; The metal catalyst complex has an N-heterocyclic carbene ligand, and thus, is excellent in thermal stability and reactivity.

A catalyst system capable of producing a cyclic olefin polymer having a polar functional group and a high molecular weight with a high yield in which a catalyst is not deactivated due to polar functional groups of monomers, and a method of producing polymers using the same are provided. The catalyst system for polymerization of olefin according to the present invention has good thermal and chemical stability, and thus, in the method of preparing polyolefin using the catalyst system, the deactivation of a catalyst due to a polar functional group of the monomer can be prevented, and thus a high yield of the cyclic olefin polymer with a high molecular weight can be obtained when a ratio of the catalyst to the monomer is 1:5000, and the removal of a catalyst residue is not required.

Disclosed is a multi-functional monomer including a heat-curable functional group as well as a typical photoreactive group. In the multi-functional monomer, the photoreactive group is not chained to a main chain of a polymer. Thus, since it is possible to perform desirable alignment treatment even though polarized UV is radiated for a short time, the production time and the production cost are reduced and alignment regulating force of liquid crystals is increased, thereby increasing a dichroic ratio.

A method of copolymerizing cyclic olefins and polar vinyl olefins, a copolymer produced by the method, and an optical anisotropic film including the copolymer are provided. According to the copolymerization method, a cyclic olefin and a polar vinyl olefin can be effectively copolymerized using a catalyst system composed of a compound containing a group 13 element and a radical initiator. The present invention provides a composition for forming a liquid crystal alignment film, which comprises a photoreactive polymer including a multicyclic compound having a photoreactive group on a main chain thereof. The present invention also provides a liquid crystal alignment film produced using the composition, and a liquid crystal display including the liquid crystal alignment film. The photoreactive polymer including the multicyclic compound on the main chain thereof has a high glass transition temperature, thus thermal stability is excellent. Since lattice vacancy is relatively large, the photoreactive group is capable of moving relatively freely in the main chain of the polymer, thus it is possible to improve a slow photoreaction rate, which is considered a disadvantage of a conventional polymer material.
