A method for inhibiting corrosion of metal surfaces, such as carbon steel tubing, that are in contact with a fluid, such as brine in an oil and gas production fluid containing acid gases (e.g., COand HS) is accomplished by introducing a corrosion-inhibiting blend of two components into the fluid, where blend is glycolipids and quaternized amines, glycolipids and phosphate-containing compounds, quaternized amines and imidazoline-like compounds, quaternized amines and phosphate-containing compounds, or combinations of these blends. Each of the two components of the blends are present in an amount effective to synergistically inhibiting the corrosion of the metal surface when used together.

Shelf-stabilized HS scavengers and methods for preparing such shelf-stabilized HS scavengers. In one aspect, a stabilized hydrogen sulfide scavenger configured for storage at an elevated temperature includes a base scavenger, free formaldehyde, and a stabilizing alcohol. In another aspect, a method of preparing the stabilized hydrogen sulfide scavenger includes the steps of providing a quantity of base scavenger; providing a quantity of free formaldehyde; and adding a quantity of stabilizing alcohol, wherein the quantity of stabilizing alcohol is determined as a function of the provided quantity of free formaldehyde. In yet another aspect, the stabilized scavenger includes about 25 wt. % base scavenger, wherein the base scavenger is an amine-aldehyde condensate; about 15 wt. % free formaldehyde; and between about 10 wt. % and about 25 wt. % stabilizing alcohol.

The present disclosure provides a formulation and methods for simultaneously dissolving metal sulfide scales, inhibiting acid gas corrosion, and inhibiting the formation of calcite and barite in a system having low or high shear stress conditions due to fluid movement, in which the formulation contains a THP+salt, one or more corrosion inhibitors, one or more scale inhibitors, and one or more acid corrosion inhibitors. The formulation may be applied to the system in diluted or undiluted form, and continuously or in batch style.

A tool for monitoring conditions within a subterranean well includes a first body segment, the first body segment being an elongated member with an axial protrusion having a reduced outer diameter. A second body segment is sized for mating with the first body segment. A metal specimen circumscribes the axial protrusion of the first body segment so that an outer diameter surface of the metal specimen defines an outer diameter of the tool. A connection assembly releasably secures the first body segment to the second body segment.

Downhole corrosion, erosion, scale and deposit monitoring system

A scavenger comprising a formaldehyde sulfoxylate may be used to scavenge hydrogen sulfide (HS) from systems that are brine or mixed production. Suitable formaldehyde sulfoxylates include, but are not necessarily limited to, sodium formaldehyde sulfoxylate, zinc formaldehyde sulfoxylate, and calcium formaldehyde sulfoxylate, potassium formaldehyde sulfoxylate, magnesium formaldehyde sulfoxylate, iron formaldehyde sulfoxylate, copper formaldehyde sulfoxylate, alkene aldehyde sulfoxylates, and combinations thereof.

The method includes adding a corrosion inhibitor composition to a supercritical fluid comprising a supercritical carbon dioxide; and contacting the supercritical fluid with a metallic surface, wherein the corrosion inhibitor composition comprises a corrosion inhibitor that has a solubility of greater than 5,000 ppm in the supercritical fluid at 48.9&#xb0; C. and 2,200 psi.

A method of determining a risk of corrosion and scale formation of tubing in a wellbore includes receiving, from a plurality of first sensors positioned at a downhole location of a wellbore, first production stream information and receiving, from a plurality of second sensors positioned at an uphole location, second production stream information. The method also includes performing a material balance to determine a first value representing a difference between a first production steam flow rate at the downhole location and a second production stream flow rate at the uphole location. The method also includes determining a second value representing a critical metal ion concentration of the production stream and, based on a result of comparing the first value with a threshold and based on the second value, determining a third value representing a risk of corrosion and scale formation at the tubing disposed within the wellbore.

A method of wellbore analysis using TM01 and TE01 modes of radar waveforms can include transmitting, at a first time, a radar waveform from a wellhead into a tubing disposed in a wellbore positioned in a reservoir. The radar waveform is either a TM01 mode or a TE01 mode waveform. The tubing includes a fluid, and the surface of the wellbore includes the wellhead.
