Described herein is a dose monitoring device configured to couple with one or more medication delivery instruments to capture, record and/or process dosing events or events of delivering a medication dose. The dose monitoring device may include electronics such as a sensor, a clock module and a temperature module related to monitoring the time of dosing events.

An electronic insulin delivery device receives glucose data from a glucose monitor and sets a bolus dose amount. The device may take the form of an insulin pen with automatic priming and accurate dosing provided by a motor in connection with an encoder. The device may communicate with and be controlled by a smart phone device. The smart phone device provides a user interface to receive user data including patient weight, insulin to carbohydrate ratio and exercise factor, and to send instructions to the device, including dose amount. The dose amount is determined taking into account glucose level and trend, and other factors. Glucose data, insulin injection data, and other relevant data may be stored and accessible to interested parties.

The infusion device may include electronics such as sensors, and can be programmed to detect parameters related to the proper administration of infusion. If the sensors detect that a parameter is outside of a defined boundary or range, the infusion device may notify a user that it may not be safe to administer infusion and may prevent infusion from occurring.
