A welding-type device has a wireless communication unit to transmit wireless signals comprising at least identification information or location information. The information may be transmitted either automatically or in response to request signals. Such a welding-type device may be configured to communicate with other welding-type devices, a monitoring device, or both. A wireless communication system has at least one welding-type device, at least one wireless communication assembly, and at least one monitoring device and is capable of assisting a user in locating particular welding-type devices, monitoring inventory, preventing theft of welding-type devices, and scheduling preventive maintenance.

Wireless tracking and inventory monitoring for welding-type devices

Methods for forming an aluminum weld on an aluminum work surface are disclosed. The methods include providing an aluminum metal-core wire having a sheath with an outer surface and a core composition within the sheath, applying a voltage to the aluminum metal-core wire in the vicinity of the aluminum work surface to generate an arc, and melting the wire and the work surface to form the weld. The sheath is formed with an inorganic lubricant on its outer surface and the core composition includes metal powders, metal alloy powders, or combinations thereof and less than about 5% of non-metallic components or non-metallic agents based on the weight of the wire.

A system having a welding wire hub with a wire-specific interface. The wire-specific interface may be configured to enable mounting with a first wire spool and configured to prevent mounting with a second wire spool. In some embodiments, the first and second wire spools have different welding wire types.

The present invention is a weld wire comprising a sheath encapsulating a metal core made of powdered metal, wherein a fill percentage of the metal core is no less than approximately 12%. The metal core comprises a core composition alloyed with an alloying element or an combination of elements comprising Cr, Mo, V, W, Hf and Nb or combinations thereof, wherein a total weight percentage of the alloying element or the combination of elements in the core composition does not exceed approximately 1%. In a particular embodiment, the alloying element is Mo in the amounts selected from the range of about 0 to about 0.5 percent by weight and the fill percentage of the metal core is selected from the range of about 12% to about 30%. In a particular embodiment of the invention, the total percentage of the combination of elements is selected from the range of about 0.4% to about 0.8%.

A welding stud apparatus and method of manufacturing a welding stud are disclosed. The welding stud has a weld end constructed to be welded to a workpiece that has at least one recess formed therein. The recess decreases an effective arc area of the weld end to localize a current therethrough and increase the efficiency with which the welding stud can be welded to a workpiece.

Low carbon high speed metal core wire

A metal-core weld wire usable for gas shielded arc welding gapless joints on low carbon and low alloy galvanized and galvanealed steels. The metal-core weld wire includes a low carbon steel sheath surrounding a core composition. In one embodiment, the low carbon steel sheath includes, by total weight of the metal-core weld wire, between approximately 0.01-0.03% C, and the core composition includes, by total weight of the metal-core weld wire, between approximately 0.05-0.20% Ti, between approximately 0.05-1.00% Nb, Fe powder, and Mn to the extent that the metal-core weld wire includes between approximately 0.1-1.0% Mn wherein the metal-core weld wire includes between approximately 0.1-1.0% Si. The core composition is, by total weight of the metal-core weld wire, between approximately 0.001-12.0%. The metal-core weld wire provides, at weld rates up to 150 cm/min, reduced arc ionization potential and spatter, and improved arc stability and shielding. The metal-core weld wire produces, at weld rates up to 150 cm/min, weld deposits having reduced blow holes and porosity, no liquid metal embrittlement, and reduced weld pool surface tension resulting in an improved wetting characteristic.

Metal-core weld wire for welding galvanized steels

An improved metal-core weld wire, usable for joint and surface welding, having a steel sheath with a core, and a core composition disposed in the core of the steel sheath, wherein the core composition is between approximately 0.001-12.0% total weight of the metal-core wire. The metal-core wires of the present invention have improved manufacturability. In another embodiment, the core composition includes iron powder in an amount that provides an oxygen content less than approximately 600 ppm in the metal-core wire for producing weld deposits with improved impact strength properties.
