System and method for detecting radio frequency (RF) saturation in a wireless device configured to simultaneously receive first signals according to a first wireless protocol and second signals according to a second wireless protocol. Signals having components of both the first and second signals may be received at a shared gain element. A level of saturation of the shared gain element may be determined. A current definition of a saturation event may be determined. A gain adjustment value may be determined based on the level of saturation and the current definition of a saturation event. A gain value of the shared gain element may be adjusted by the determined gain adjustment value.

Adaptive RF saturation detection in a wireless device implementing multiple wireless protocols

A system is disclosed with a first transceiver configured to communicate with a second transceiver. The first transceiver includes a message encoded by a spreading code and a transmitter configured to use beam forming to send the message as a beamformed transmit message to the second transceiver in one of multiple regions repeatedly targeted by the beam forming. The transceivers include a receiver configured to operating without beam forming in receiving to decode the message using the spreading code with a spreading length to compensate for the lack of beam forming. Other embodiments may include an integrated circuit with a processor operating a transmitter and a receiver of the first or the second transceiver. The integrated circuit may act as a central point, a base station and/or an access point communicating with a client, or operate the transceiver as the client, a station or as a cellular phone.

Method and apparatus for physical layer control communications in a wireless communications protocol

A signal analysis mechanism for processing and classifying an RF signal received at a WLAN device. A plurality of spectral data captures comprising time-frequency data and receive signal strength indicator (RSSI) data associated with the RF signal received at the WLAN device are generated. The time-frequency and RSSI data of each of the plurality of spectral data captures is processed to determine whether each spectral data capture is a narrowband signal capture. If the plurality of spectral data captures are narrowband signal captures, a narrowband interference signal type associated with the received RF signal is determined based, at least in part, on a plurality of parameters associated with the narrowband signal captures.

Radio frequency signal analysis and classification using time-frequency information

A method and device for concurrently transmitting a Wi-Fi signal and a Bluetooth signal via a common power amplifier and antenna. A first set of values indicative of transmission power levels of a Wi-Fi signal and a corresponding set of values indicative of transmission power levels of a BT signal are stored in a table. Information about activities pertaining to the BT signal including a value of a transmission power level of the BT signal is received. Based on the received value of the transmission power level of the BT signal, a corresponding value of a transmission power level of the Wi-Fi signal may be looked up from the table. Transmission of one or more of the Wi-Fi or BT signals may be controlled, based on at least one of the received information or the looked-up value of the transmission power level of the Wi-Fi signal.

Arbitration between two wireless protocols in a wireless device. The wireless device may include first wireless protocol circuitry, configured to receive and process first signals according to a first wireless protocol and second wireless protocol circuitry, configured to receive and process second signals according to a second wireless protocol. The wireless device may also include coexistence circuitry. The coexistence circuitry may be configured to receive a request from the first wireless protocol circuitry to perform transmission or reception and arbitrate the requested transmission or reception between the first wireless protocol circuitry and the second wireless protocol circuitry. The decision may be based on current or future priority information, current configuration, or other factors. The coexistence circuitry (or other circuitry) may be configured to determine position of switches controlling antennas or transmission using shared or unshared antennas (or chains). The two wireless protocols may be WLAN and Bluetooth.

Provided is a radio-frequency (RF) power amplifier system that includes a look-up table (LUT), populated with values indicative of predistortion information that is stored in a memory location, and a transmit path that includes a predistorter to receive a transmission signal (TX) and output a predistorted transmission (TX) signal, wherein the predistorted transmission signal is compensated for distortion of the transmit path, and wherein the predistorter outputs the predistorted TX signal based on the values indicative of predistortion information populated in the look-up table. The transmit path also includes a digital to analog converter (DAC) configured to receive the predistorted TX signal from the predistorter and output an analog predistorted transmission (TX) signal, and a power amplifier configured to amplify the analog predistorted TX signal.

Power amplifier linearization system and method

Predistortion may be employed to avoid distortion in the output of a power amplifier (PA) in a transmitter, while maintaining transmit power. An active transmission signal, instead of test tones, may be used for training a predistorter for the PA, and for the entire analog transmit path of the transmitter, via a loopback path from the output of the PA to the input of a receiver path. The transmitter may include an upconverter, and the receive path may include a downconverter, which may therefore both be included in the loopback path, helping eliminate phase noise. The predistortion training may incorporate fractional timing correction, to properly align the amplified version of the original TX signal received via the loopback path with the original TX signal. The transfer function of the PA may be estimated as a polynomial function, obtaining the coefficients of the polynomial function using adaptation techniques according to one of a number of possible different methods, e.g. through curve fitting using a least mean square (LMS) algorithm.

Power amplifier linearization using digital predistortion

A communication device supporting multiple wireless protocols may share a common gain element in a coordinated manner. A first wireless protocol circuitry of the communication device may enter an active state, and in response to entering the active state, may determine whether a second wireless protocol circuitry of the communication device is active and whether the common gain element is currently shared. The gain element may be adjustable to amplify signals by an adjustable amount. The first wireless protocol circuitry may take control of the gain element from the second wireless protocol circuitry in response to determining that the second wireless protocol circuitry is active and the gain element is currently shared.

Transmission link adaptation

A method for determining a gain compensation value for multiple ADCs sums an absolute value of a number of ADC output samples from each of the ADCs that may be collected while the ADCs are in normal operation. In one embodiment, the ratio of the sums of the absolute values of ADC output samples may reflect the difference in gains between the ADCs, and may be used to determine the ADC gain compensation value. A method for determining an offset compensation value between for multiple ADCs averages of a number of ADC output samples from each ADC collected while the ADCs are in normal operation. In one embodiment, a difference between the ADC sample averages may reflect the difference in magnitudes of the ADC offsets for each ADC, and may be used to determine the ADC offset compensation value.

Method and apparatus for offset and gain compensation for analog-to-digital converters

In one embodiment, the present invention includes a slot in a repeating time division frame with a first training sequence, an information sequence after the first training sequence, and a second training sequence after the information sequence. In some embodiments either the first or the second training sequences indicates a type for the information sequence, such as a random access channel message and a traffic channel message, a configuration message, a channel assignment message, or a data traffic message.
