A first multilayer shrink film has an outer polyester layer, an inner O-barrier layer, and a tie layer between the polyester layer and the barrier layer. A second multilayer film an outer polyester layer, an inner polyamide layer, and a tie layer between the polyester and polyamide layers. The tie layer comprises a styrene-based polymer, and the tie layer in the second film comprises an anhydride functional styrene based copolymer. Included are a packaging article comprising the film, a packaging process utilizing the film, a process for making the film, and a packaged product comprising a packaging article made the film, with a product inside the package.

Delamination-resistant heat-shrinkable multilayer oxygen barrier film containing polyester

A first multilayer shrink film has an outer polyester layer, an inner 02-barrier layer, and a tie layer between the polyester layer and the barrier layer. A second multilayer film an outer polyester layer, an inner polyamide layer, and a tie layer between the polyester and polyamide layers. The tie layer comprises a styrene-based polymer, and the tie layer in the second film comprises an anhydride functional styrene based copolymer. Included are a packaging article comprising the film, a packaging process utilizing the film, a process for making the film, and a packaged product comprising a packaging article made the film, with a product inside the package.

A heat-shrinkable packaging article has one or more tear initiators for initiating a manual tear that can be propagated to open a package and allow a product to be readily removed therefrom, without the use of a knife or scissors or any other implement. The tear initiators are present in a skirt and/or header of the article. The skirt and/or header has a first side and a second side. In one embodiment, some or all of the first side of the skirt and/or header can be heatset in order to reduce the shrink and curling of the skirt and/or header. This improves identification and utilization of the tear initiators by a consumer upon shrinking the packaging article around the product. In another embodiment, the skirt and/or header has a plurality of pairs of tear initiators to allow portions of the package to be torn off to expose a portion of the product that can then be sliced off while the remainder of the packaged product remains covered by a remainder of the film.

Easy opening packaging article made from heat-shrinkable film exhibiting directional tear

An alcoholic beverage is aged in a wooden barrel after the barrel is covered by a film having an oxygen transmission rate of at least 50 cc/m/day and an ethanol transmission rate of less than 30 g/m/day. The beverage acquires one or more specific flavor components in an amount of 50%, 75%, or 100% relative to amounts of one or more of the same flavor components in a control alcoholic beverage aged in a wooden barrel without the film thereon. Covering the barrel with the film reduces the angels' share evaporative loss, while allowing the beverage to develop desirable flavor components during aging. In another embodiment, the process reduces angels' share evaporative loss while achieving organoleptics indistinguishable from a control.

Process for reducing ethanol loss while developing desirable organoleptics during wooden barrel aging of alcoholic beverage

An alcoholic beverage is aged in at least one wooden barrel after the barrel is covered by a film having an oxygen transmission rate of at least 0.5 cc/m/day and an ethanol transmission rate of less than 30 g/m/day. An easy-open and reclosable package includes a pouch including a discrete laminate including a base strip and a panel section having a die cut defining a die cut segment, the panel section anchored to the base strip; the second surface of the base strip anchored to the inner surface of a second side panel; and the panel section anchored to a first side panel; and a product in the pouch. The die cut segment is so arranged with respect to the base strip that when the package is opened, the package can be reclosed by adhering the pressure sensitive adhesive to the first side panel.

Easy open and reclosable package with discrete laminate, with die-cut, anchored to second side panel

An easy-open and reclosable package includes a pouch including a discrete laminate including a base strip, a panel section, and a die cut defining a die cut segment; a first and second anchor seal; the base strip including a sealing segment, backing segment, and intermediate layer including a pressure sensitive adhesive; and a product disposed in the pouch. The die cut segment is so arranged that when the package is opened, the sealing segment is partially removed from the base strip, the pressure sensitive adhesive is partially exposed, and the package can thereafter be reclosed by adhering any of the first side panel, second side panel, and panel section to the pressure sensitive adhesive. Methods of making the package, and a pouch, are also disclosed.

Easy open and reclosable package with discrete laminate with die-cut

An easy-open and reclosable package includes a pouch including a discrete strip, between first and second side panels; including a sealing segment, a backing segment, and an intermediate layer including a pressure sensitive adhesive, the first surface of the strip anchored to the inner surface of the first panel at a first location, and the second surface of the strip anchored to the inner surface of the second side panel at a first location; a die cut in the first panel, defining a primary die cut segment so arranged that when the package is opened, it can be reclosed by adhering the adhesive to the first side panel; and a product in the pouch. A secondary die cut segment can be disposed between the primary die cut segment and an end of the package. This secondary die cut can be at least partially underlain by the adhesive.

Easy open and reclosable package with die-cut web, and discrete strip anchored to second side panel

An easy-open, reclosable package includes a tray with tray liner; a product; and a lidstock, including a substrate including a first layer of high modulus thermoplastic material, and a second layer including an oxygen barrier; and a coextruded film including a first layer including a blend of from 80% to 88% ionomer resin, and from 12% to 20% olefinic polymer, a second layer including a pressure sensitive adhesive, and optionally a third layer including a polymeric adhesive; wherein the first layer of the coextruded film is sealed to the tray liner; the coextruded film is adhered to an inner surface of the substrate film; and after the package is opened, and the pressure sensitive adhesive is exposed, the package can be reclosed by adhering the adhesive to a portion of the first layer of the coextruded film that remained sealed to the tray liner when the package was opened.
