An electrodynamic machine includes a rotor assembly, a stator assembly defining an annular core receiving the rotor assembly, the rotor assembly rotating within the stator assembly based on electromagnetic fields generated by the stator assembly and the rotor assembly, a plurality of structural components mechanically supporting the rotor assembly and stator assembly, and an active damping element providing forced vibrations that counteract structural vibrations of the electrodynamic machine caused by magnetic forces based upon the electromagnetic fields or caused by mechanical forces based upon the plurality of structural components.

Electrodynamic machines, and method for reducing vibration of an electrodynamic machine

A computer implemented method for evaluating quality control data of a product manufactured by a partially automated manufacturing process. In the method, a database is generated which includes design specifications for the product. Manufacturing data generated from inspection of the product at each stage of the partially automated process is then received. The manufacturing data is then compared with the design specifications to determine whether the manufacturing data meets the design specifications. In one embodiment, the product is an induction coil used in electric motors.

A bearing assembly for an induction machine, such as an alternating current motor, includes a magnetic bearing for supporting a rotating shaft. An auxiliary bearing, also supporting the shaft in the event of magnetic bearing failure, is aligned with the motor end shield and frame so that shaft loads supported thereby are transferred to the frame in a manner that reduces likelihood of magnetic bearing contact with the shaft or its deformation. The bearing assembly may incorporate shock absorbing and vibration damping/isolation elements, such as o-rings, between the auxiliary bearing and its support structure interface to the frame. The auxiliary bearing may be incorporated in a removable cartridge for ease of machine maintenance. The bearing assembly may include heat dissipating fins.

Electrodymamic machine rotating mass, including for example induction motor rotors, stiffness tuning methods include selective orientation and compression of modular tie rod assemblies into through bores formed in the rotor lamination core outboard of the rotor shaft during motor manufacture, repair or refurbishment. Stiffness tuning enables a motor manufacturer to tune a rotor's rotordynamic stability, and hence the assembled motor's critical vibration speed. Electrodynamic machine rotating mass tuning can be adjusted in response to machine physical design, operational application and manufacturing variation attributes that impact the assembled machine's critical vibration frequency. Thus the present invention offers a systematic, holistic approach to motor vibration refinement through use of a simple kit of modular tie rod assemblies oriented and tightened in a selected array. Rotor stiffness tuning can be tested virtually on computer work stations. Additional actual rotor stiffness tuning can be performed during manufacture.

Method of tuning bending and torsion stiffness of ducted rotor core of an induction motor

A lubrication system for an electrodynamic machine including therein an internal oil sump and at least one oil ring hydrodynamic bearing, wherein the oil ring is in fluid communication with oil, in the sump and replenishes oil in the bearing. The lubrication system includes an electrically powered oil sump pump that is oriented within the sump. An of intake is coupled to the pump and is in fluid communication with oil in the internal sump. An oil discharge line is coupled to the pump discharge. The distal end of the discharge line is oriented proximal the motor bearing, so that oil discharged therefrom replenishes oil in the bearing and shaft journal interface. The lubrication system oil discharge parameters are independent, of the motor speed, load or physical orientation, and may be varied by a controller coupled to the oil sump pump.

A rotor windage noise damping system for an induction motor cooling vent A duct having a duct airflow path has a proximal end opening in communication with the cooling vent and the distal end opening is for communication with ambient air. The duct includes a plurality of baffles. The baffles are oriented in a generally parallel mutually spaced symmetrical or asymmetrical array relative to each other and the duct airflow path. Dimensions for baffle array symmetry or asymmetry, parallel spacing, baffle thickness and baffle inset from one of the duct openings are chosen to restrict distance between adjacent baffles to less than a wavelength of windage noise at selected propagation frequencies, yet provide for sufficient cooling airflow through the duct. The duct may be tuned to dampen selected propagation frequencies by changing the baffle array.
