A catalyst and method of use can involve causing a clean exothermic reaction in a flowline environment. The mixture can include sodium nitrite, an ammonium-based compound, and an activator that can be injected into a fluid flow path. The activator can include an acid that can be generated from a lactone. The fluid flow path can be a pipeline, a flowline, a wellbore, or a subterranean formation. The mixture can cause an exothermic reaction in the fluid flow path and remove, using the exothermic reaction, a damaging material from the fluid flow path.

Carminic acid and related compounds may be used to perform similar functions dually in various subterranean treatment operations. Methods for treating a subterranean formation can comprise: providing a treatment fluid comprising a carrier fluid and an ortho-dihydroxylated aromatic compound comprising a substance selected from the group consisting of carminic acid, kermesic acid, any salt thereof, any derivative thereof, and any combination thereof; and introducing the treatment fluid into a subterranean formation.

A resin-clay composition includes a first mixture including an epoxy resin and a nano-clay; and a curing agent added to the first mixture to produce a second mixture, wherein a presence of the nano-clay causes a change in curing time of the epoxy resin. The second mixture may be added into a hydrocarbon well for aggregating particulate matter. A percentage of the epoxy resin in the second mixture may include a range of about 10 to about 90 percent. A percentage of the clay in the second mixture may include a range of about 0 to about 20 percent, and wherein a percentage of the curing agent in the second mixture may include a range of about 10 to about 90 percent. The epoxy resin may include Diglycidyl ether of Bisphenol A epoxy resin.

A process for chemically removing cured resin product from subterranean formations in case of inappropriate consolidation, plugging of screens or tubing, and equipment damage. A chemical solvent is introduced to a wellbore where a resin has cured. The resin is contacted with the chemical solvent until the resin at least partially dissolves. The dissolved resin is then removed from the wellbore. The process may also be used to remove consolidated packs consisting of cured resin and particulate materials.
