What provided is a biosensor including: a substrate having a surface with first and second regions adjacent each other; a magnetoresistance effect element disposed on the first region; a soft magnetic thin film on the second region; a protective film disposed on both the first region and the second region, covering a surface of the soft magnetic thin film, and disposed on the top part of the second region and contains an affinity substance recognizing the biomolecule on the outer surface of the second region exclusively; and an MR cover film disposed on at least the top part of the first region, disposed on the protective film above the magnetoresistance effect element, and being free of the affinity substance, wherein the soft magnetic thin film transmits an in-plane component of a stray magnetic field of magnetic beads to the magnetoresistance effect element.

Biosensor and biochip

A chemical sensor that enables high detection accuracy. A chemical sensor includes a substrate, a magnetoresistance-effect element disposed over the substrate, a first film disposed over the magnetoresistance-effect element, and a second film disposed in a region in the vicinity of the magnetoresistance-effect element or over a region in the vicinity of the magnetoresistance-effect element, wherein the second film has higher solubility in a specific liquid than the first film.

Chemical sensor

To provide a chemical sensor that enables high detection accuracy. A chemical sensor includes a substrate, two or more magnetoresistance-effect elements disposed side by side in a substrate in-plane direction over the substrate, a first film disposed over a region between the magnetoresistance-effect elements adjacent to each other, and a second film disposed over the magnetoresistance-effect elements, wherein the second film has higher solubility in a specific liquid than the first film.

Compounds for use in organic EL devices and organic EL devices

An optical recording medium is provided in which a recording layer contains a salt-forming dye between an ion of an azo metal complex of the following formula (I) and an ion of a cyanine dye of the following formula (II), having a complex index of refraction in the wavelength region of recording light and/or reading light whose imaginary part k is up to 0.20, or at least one of azo oxovanadium metal complexes having an azo compound of the following formula (III) as a ligand and metal complexes having azo compounds of the following formulae (IV) and (V) as a ligand. Recording and reading can be carried out at a conventional wavelength or a short wavelength of about 630-690 nm or both.

Optical recording medium

The cyanine dyes of the invention are well soluble in solvents having a high evaporation rate and stable against light, and thus effective for improving productivity and realizing optical recording media, especially CD-R and DVD-R optical discs, having improved light resistance. The optical recording medium of the invention uses a photo-stabilized cyanine dye which is obtained as a counter ion bonded compound between an anion of the formula (1) and a cation of the formula (2): ##STR1## wherein R.sub.01 and R.sub.02 each are ##STR2## wherein each of R.sub.11 and R.sub.12 is an alkyl group of 1 to 4 carbon atoms or phenyl group, ##STR3## wherein m is equal to 3, 4, 5 or 6, ##STR4## or phenyl groups; M is a transition metal; each of Z.sub.1 and Z.sub.2 is a fused benzene ring or fused naphthalene ring; each of R.sub.21 and R.sub.22 is an alkyl group; and n is equal to 0, 1 or 2.

Photo-stabilized cyanine dyes and optical recording media

A phthalocyanine dye of specific structure represented by the following general formula (1) or (2): ##STR1## where Y is O or S attached to the phthalocyanine ring, Z is the group of atoms required to complete a carbon or heterocyclic ring together with C, A.sub.1 is a monovalent substituent bulkier than a hydrogen atom, and each of X.sub.1 and X.sub.2 is H or a monovalent substituent or, in the alternative, X.sub.1 and X.sub.2, taken together, form a single bond, ##STR2## where Y and Z.sub.1 have the same meanings as defined for Y and Z in formula (1). A.sub.11 is a monovalent substituent having a branched alkyl group, which is attached to the ring completed by Z.sub.1, and s1 is the number of A.sub.11, is used for the recording layer of an optical recording layer. This phthalocyanine dye is unlikely to attack a substrate material such as PC, can be handled with ease, and has a high solubility in a coating solvent advantageous for film formation, for instance, an alcoholic solvent, e.g., ethyl cellosolve or an aliphatic hydrocarbon solvent.

An optical recording medium which can be recorded and read at a short wavelength (about 635-680 nm) or which can be recorded and read at two wavelengths, the short wavelength and a conventional wavelength (about 780 nm) has a recording layer containing an azo metal complex dye obtained by reacting a metal compound with an azo compound of formula (I) or an azo compound of formula (II). ##STR1## In formula (I), Q.sub.1 is a group of atoms necessary to form an aromatic ring with two C, A is C or a hetero-atom, Q.sub.2 is a group of atoms necessary to form an aromatic ring with two C and A, and Q.sub.3 is a group of atoms necessary to form an aromatic ring with C, N and A, fused to the aromatic ring completed by Q.sub.2. In formula (II), Q.sup.1 is a 8-quinolyl radical and Q.sup.2 is a 2-imidazolyl radical whose nitrogen at the 1-position has active hydrogen.

The invention provides an optical recording medium comprising at least two recording layers containing a dye. At least two layers of the recording layers have different optical constants, and at least one among these recording layers having different optical constants contains a dye which forms a thin film having an absorption spectrum whose half-value width is up to 170 nm. This construction permits the medium to be written and read in a conventional wavelength range of about 780 nm and a shorter wavelength range of about 630-680 nm.

A recording layer contains a dye A having a complex index of refraction at 780 nm whose real part n is 1.8-2.8 and imaginary part k is up to 0.15 and forming a thin film exhibiting an absorption spectrum whose half-value width is up to 170 nm and a dye B having a complex index of refraction at 630 nm or 650 nm whose real part n is 1.8-2.8 and imaginary part k is up to 0.2. An optical recording medium capable of writing and reading in a conventional wavelength region of about 780 nm and a shorter wavelength region of about 630 to 680 nm is obtained.

An optical recording medium having a recording layer and a reflective layer closely stacked on a substrate, wherein recording is carried out by directing recording light to the recording layer to form pits and reproduction is carried out by directing reproducing light to the recording layer. The recording layer contains a light absorbing dye, typically cyanine dye and a bisphenylenedithiol copper complex quencher in either independent form or ionically bonded form. The quencher characterized by a low coefficient of extinction can be added in a sufficient amount to provide the recording layer with light resistance while maintaining recording/reproducing performance.

A phthalocyanine dye of specific structure represented by the following general formula (1) or (2): ##STR1## where Y is O or S attached to the phthalocyanine ring, Z is the group of atoms recurred to complete a carbon or heterocyclic ring together with C, A.sub.1 is a monovalent substituent bulkier than a hydrogen atom, and each of X.sub.1 and X.sub.2 is H or a monovalent substituent or, in the alternative, X.sub.1 and X.sub.2, taken together, form a single bond, ##STR2## where Y and Z.sub.1 have the same meanings as defined for Y and Z in formula (1), All is a monovalent substituent having a branched alkyl group, which is attached to the ring completed by Z.sub.1, and s1 is the number of A.sub.11, is used for the recording layer of an optical recording layer. This phthalocyanine dye is unlikely to attack a substrate material such as PC, can be handled with ease, and has a high solubility in a coating solvent advantageous for film formation, for instance, an alcoholic solvent, e.g., ethyl cellosolve or an aliphatic hydrocarbon solvent.

An optical recording disk comprising a grooved substrate, a dye-containing recording layer, and a reflective layer in close contact with the recording layer is recorded by directing recording light to the recording layer in the groove to form pits and reproduced by directing reproducing light to the pits. The substrate is formed of a cyclic olefin polymer. A photo-stabilized cyanine dye in the form of an indolenine cyanine dye cation-quencher anion ionic combination has relatively constant values of n and k with a variation in the wavelength of recording/reproducing light. Then the disk is resistant against light, heat and water to ensure satisfactory performance according to the CD standard.
