A boat includes an engine, an input that receives an input operation performed by an operator, and a controller connected to the input. The controller is powered off when the input does not receive the input operation within a first length of time after the engine is stopped. The controller is not powered off when the input receives the input operation within the first length of time after the engine is stopped.

A small boat includes an engine, a display that displays a speed setting image of a boat body and an acceleration setting image of the boat body side by side, an operator including a speed setting operator through which an operation of setting a speed set value is received and an acceleration setting operator through which an operation of setting an acceleration set value is received, and an engine controller that controls the engine based on the operations received by the operator.

Boat and personal watercraft

A personal watercraft includes a hull, a deck, a steering handle, a steering shaft, a seat, and a display device. The deck is disposed above the hull. The steering handle is disposed above the deck. The steering shaft is arranged to extend downward from the steering handle. The display device includes a display portion and a switch. The display portion is disposed forward relative to the steering shaft. The switch is arranged to operate the display portion. The switch is disposed on a surface of the deck rearward relative to the steering shaft and forward relative to a central front end of the seat.

A mode setting device can disable mode setting into a speed setting mode if a certain operating state of the engine has been determined, and can enable mode setting into the speed setting mode if the engine is not in the operating state.

An operation control system for a planing boat can include a mode selection module configured to allow a driver to select a driving mode of either one of a normal operation mode, in which the boat cruises at a speed in response to the displacement of an acceleration controller, and a speed-fixing mode, in which the boat cruises at a fixed speed at a level when a speed-fixing controller is operated. The system can also include a planing condition determination module configured to determine whether a hull is at the stage of planing, in which the mode selection module is configured to prohibit the driving mode from switching to the speed-fixing mode if the planing condition determination module determines that the hull is not at the stage of planning. The mode selection module can also be configured to permit the driving mode to switch to the speed-fixing mode if the planing condition determination module determines that the hull is at the stage of planing. The system can also include an aural reporting device configured to emit aural reports depending on the inputs issued by the operator.

An operation control system for a small boat can include a mode selection module configured to allow a driver to select between a plurality of driving modes including at least a normal operation mode, in which the boat cruises at a speed in response to the displacement of an acceleration controller, and a low-speed setting mode, in which the boat cruises at a preset low speed when a low-speed setting controller is operated; in which the mode selection module permits the driving mode to switch to the low-speed setting mode if the displacement of the acceleration controller is zero, or small or close to zero or is in or substantially at an idle position.

A watercraft has an engine that is controlled by an electronic control unit and the watercraft includes a security system. The security system comprises a portable transmitter and a mounted receiver. A predetermined mounting location on the watercraft of a receiver of the security system allows for improved serviceability and improved reception between the transmitter and a corresponding receiver.

A watercraft has an engine that is controlled by an electronic control unit and the watercraft includes a security system. The security system includes a portable transmitter unit, and also includes a mounted receiver. The portable unit is waterproof and is buoyant. The portable unit includes a housing of transparent material that allows a user to see whether water has entered the portable unit. The security system has an antenna that provides improved reception between the portable transmitter unit and the mounted receiver.

Control device for small watercraft

A fuel overflow alarm system sounds a buzzer or other alarm when a fuel level in a fuel tank of a vehicle or other machine approaches an overflow state, thereby alerting a user that fueling should be halted. The device is activated when a fuel cap or fuel cap cover on a filler inlet tube to the fuel tank is opened and is de-activated when the filler inlet tube is closed. Thus, electrical current drawn by the system can be limited to time periods when the fuel tank is being filled, thereby sparing the electrical system of the vehicle or machine from being depleted during periods of non-use.

An immobilization system for watercraft includes a transponder mounted within a lanyard clip and a communication device mounted to be in the vicinity of the trasponder when the lanyard member is engaged with the kill switch assembly. If the transponder does not include the correct security code, the engine will not start or will be killed.

The speed measuring system includes a ride plate assembly for a personal watercraft comprising a sensor and a plate. The sensor generally includes a moveable element and a housing supporting at least a portion of the moveable element. The plate includes a longitudinally-extending channel with the channel extending along at least a portion of the length of the plate. The housing is connected to an aft portion of the plate with at least a portion of the rotatable element being positioned in line with the channel.

A GPS-fitted small watercraft in which one or more GPS antennas are attached to the watercraft in a manner that provides good protection from waves and good signal reception. For a watercraft having a hull member and a deck member joined together at their perimeters, with a gunwale formed at and protruding outwardly from the joined perimeters, the GPS antenna(s) is mounted inwardly from the gunwale on the deck or hull member. Alternatively, the GPS antenna(s) may be mounted to an outside or inside surface of the deck member, on a pad located on a set of handlebars, near a grip of the handlebars, atop or inside a small cargo hatch, on a hatch beneath the handlebars, on a grab bar behind a seat of the watercraft, on a top surface of a bulwark, or on a side wall of the watercraft between the gunwale and a chine of the hull member, either on the inside or outside.

An adjustable sponson system for a watercraft includes a coupling mechanism that allows the position of the sponsons relative to the hull of the watercraft to be varied by the operator of the watercraft while seated on the watercraft. The adjustable sponson system includes a pair of actuators which move the sponsons relative to the hull. A remotely positioned operator controls the actuator. The operator desirably is positioned on the watercraft so as to be easily operated by the rider when riding.

A watercraft includes an improved display arrangement located in a steering operator for steering of the watercraft. The steering operator has at least one hand grip. The display arrangement includes a visual display and a display controller connected to the visual display so as to control the display of watercraft operational information on the visual display. The display controller establishes at least two display modes for the visual display to change the type of operational information displayed. A selector is supported by the steering operator near the grip for easy use by the watercraft operator in changing the display modes of the visual display with the display controller.
