Novel compounds useful as hosts in OLEDs having Formula I

Host materials for electroluminescent devices

Provided is a compound comprising a ligand Lhaving where ring A is a 5-membered or 6-membered carbocyclic or heterocyclic ring; one of X-Xis C if linked to ring A; one of X-Xis N if adjacent to the linking C and coordinates to a metal M to form a five-membered chelate ring as indicated by the two dashed lines.

Novel iridium complexes containing phenylpyridine and pyridyl aza-benzo fused ligands are described. These complexes are useful as light emitters when incorporated into OLEDs.

Provided are transition metal compounds having 5-membered carbocyclic or heterocyclic ring in a unique configuration of fused rings per Formula I The compounds show improved phosphorescent emission in red to near IR region and are useful as emitter materials in organic electroluminescence device.

Novel compounds comprising heteroleptic iridium complexes are provided. The compounds have a particular combination of ligands which includes a single pyridyl dibenzo-substituted ligand. The compounds may be used in organic light emitting devices, particularly as emitting dopants, to provide devices having improved efficiency, lifetime, and manufacturing.

Ligands with fused spirocyclic substitutions and metal complexes formed with such ligands and having improved performance in OLED applications are disclosed.
