An XML schema defining elements representing different point of variability (POV) types for points of variability of a pattern is provided. The elements belong to an XML schema POV data-type substitution group that allows the POV types to be substituted for one another. A pattern author is allowed to add new or custom POV data types to the substitution group, thereby allowing the pattern author to extend the pattern meta model to include new POV data types. Once the desired POV data types are defined, the pattern author is allowed to generate an instance of the pattern that applies programmatic operations of the new or custom POV data types created and substituted by the end user to each respective system object.

Extensible meta model for capturing solution patterns

A method for capturing patterns and associated points of variability includes providing an XML schema defining elements representing different point of variability (POV) types for a pattern. The elements belong to an XML schema 'substitution group' to enable the POV types to be substituted for one another. In selected embodiments, the method enables a pattern author to add new or custom POV types to the 'substitution group,' thereby allowing the pattern author to extend the pattern meta model to include new POV types. Once the desired POV types are defined, the method enables the pattern author to generate an instance of the XML schema, defining the points of variability for a specific pattern, using the elements defined in the XML schema &#x201c;substitution group.&#x201d; A corresponding apparatus and computer program product are also disclosed and claimed herein.

A technique for serializing both logical and physical meta-model information in a single file is disclosed. In an embodiment, the logical meta-model information is serialized in an Extensible Marking Language (XML) schema compliant format, and the physical meta-model information is inserted into the logical meta-model in suitable locations such that the mappings between the logical and physical meta-models are preserved. In an embodiment, an XML 'appInfo' annotation is used to carry physical meta-model information used by multiple applications and suitably placed in a nested configuration with its corresponding logical meta-model information.

Single file serialization for physical and logical meta-model information

A method and apparatus for creating a schema definition from a language-specific metamodel of a data structure written in a legacy computer language involves walking through the nodes of the metamodel, and creating corresponding schema element objects in a schema tree that is serialized to create the schema definition. The creation of the schema element objects follows rules, and permits the definition of nested data structures having conjunctive-type and disjunctive-type membership.

Method and apparatus for converting legacy programming language data structures to schema definitions

Interface code is produced to use services of an enterprise information system. An application specific information schema is provided that defines the format and shape of application specific information usable in a business object schema defining the business object and the application specific information for the enterprise information system. An enterprise metadata discovery schema is also provided for anchoring the application specific information schema to complex type, element, attribute and the business object schema. The business object schema is generated using a metatdata editor. The interface code is produced using the business object schema.

Dynamic editing support and validation of application specific information on business objects

A method for synchronizing data files, the method comprising: within a messaging utility, associating a Web Service Definition Language (WSDL) definition with a data file, the association made by a passive reference between the WSDL definition to the data file; creating a reference table identifying WSDL files and referenced data files; determining if the WSDL file has changed, if the WSDL file has changed then: determining if a reference to a data file exists in the changed WSDL file; adding an entry in the reference table associating the WSDL file and the data file; launching a component of a builder application to build the data file; and determining if any additional references to data files exist in the changed WSDL file; determining if the data file has changed, if the data file has changed then: determining if the changed data file is referenced by a WSDL file by examining the reference table; if the changed data file exists in the reference table, then launching a component of the builder application to build the WSDL file referencing the changed data file.

Method, system and computer program product for maintaining synchronization of files

A computer readable medium, method, and device for generating eXtensible Markup Language (XML) schema fragments for use in validating an XML message in a particular wire format is disclosed. The method uses as its input a custom XML schema based message model containing logical model extensions or wire format specific rendering options. The output of the method is an XML schema that includes XML schema fragments. The output schema complies with an accepted XML schema standard recognized by a standard schema validator. At run time, the output XML schema, along with the standard schema validator, may be used at a node which does not understand the custom message model to validate incoming XML messages. Depending upon the manner of generating of the XML schema fragments, the resultant validation may be strict or lax.

Representing logical model extensions and wire format specific rendering options in XML messaging schemas

A meta-model for creating models of alternative physical representations of logically equivalent entities, such as alternative wire format representations of logically equivalent messages, includes a logical meta-model and a physical meta-model. The logical meta-model provides logical entity component classes for creating a logical model which describes, in a platform and programming language neutral manner (e.g. as an XML schema), the logical structure of the modeled entity as a hierarchy of logical entity components. The physical meta-model provides classes for creating a physical model which describes the alternative physical representations. The physical meta-model includes Base Classes representative of generic physical representations of the logical entity components, with 'correspondence associations' being defined between the Base Classes and corresponding logical entity component classes. The physical meta-model further includes at least one set of physical representation-specific, Derived Classes descendent from the Base Classes.

Meta-model for associating multiple physical representations of logically equivalent entities in messaging and other applications

The present invention generally provides a message validation model. Specifically, the present invention provides a message validation layer/framework that allows rules such as message validation rules to be plugged into/attached to a logical model. This model allows (among other things) schema level rules or the like to be converted to message level rules at deployment time. Specifically, the rules (like the physical representations) are serialized as annotations on the logical model. From this model, a query (e.g., XSL or XQuery) can be generated to validate and check if the instance documents comply with such rules or a Java based rules execution engine can be developed/utilized that uses XPATH (or another query language) to determine the source and dependent elements and executes the rules.

Message validation model

Within the scope of existing XML Schema specifications, an approach is provided to embed simple types within a complex type so an XML stream can have instances of the embedded simple types, even without the presence of XML elements. Because the approach is within the scope of existing XML Schema specifications, the approach is transparent to known XML parsers. With the approach, an XML schema will have a complex type with a mixed flag set to true and an element set to be a dummy element. The dummy element has a simple type and one of (i) a name of the dummy element and (ii) a name of the simple type is one of a predetermined set of names. This XML schema is for use with a parser which, on parsing the schema, will interpret the dummy element as one of an embedded simple type and an inherited simple type.
