A compressor assembly including a housing, a motor operatively linked to a compressor mechanism, a support structure, and a sheet of closed cell foam material. The motor and compressor mechanism are disposed within the housing. The housing, motor, and compressor mechanism define a compressor assembly weight. The foam material includes a first and an opposite second surface. The first and second surfaces are adhered to the housing and support structure, respectively, and substantially all of the compressor assembly weight is supported by the foam material. A method of mounting a compressor assembly including coupling a motor and a compressor mechanism, mounting the motor and compressor mechanism within a housing, and mounting the housing to a support structure wherein a sheet of closed cell foam material is disposed between the housing and the support structure and substantially all of the compressor assembly weight is supported by the foam material.

Compressor assemblies with improved mounting support and method of mounting such compressor assemblies

A method of draining and recharging a hermetic compressor with oil using a drainage assembly mounted in the compressor housing. The assembly includes a tube having a valve mounted at one end thereof with the second end of the tube located in the oil sump of the housing. To drain the compressor oil, refrigerant flowing through the discharge and suction lines is shut off. Refrigerant is purged from the housing to create a vacuum therein and the housing is charged with a gas such as dry air or nitrogen. As the compressor housing is charged with gas, the pressure inside the housing increases, forcing the oil through the drainage assembly and out of the compressor. To recharge the compressor with oil, the gases are purged creating a vacuum in the housing. A predetermined amount of oil is drawn into the housing through a service hose. The compressor is purged and recharged with refrigerant.

A refrigerating unit including a base, a heat exchanger, and a shroud attached to the base The heat exchanger may have opposite side edges defined by a pair of substantially cylindrical headers, at least one of the headers having an inlet tube or an outlet tube extending, and a substantially rectangular shroud attached to the base and being provided with notched corners. The shroud has a top surface with at least one elongate boss, and integrally-formed resilient gripping portions which capture the heat exchanger headers. The heat exchanger is mounted to the base through engagement with the shroud, clearance is provided between a shroud notched corner and the inlet or outlet tube, and the boss provides a means for supporting the shroud when placed upside down.

A condensing unit which includes a base plate having first and second oppositely disposed major surfaces. The base plate may include flanges disposed along the outer periphery of the base plate. A compressor mechanism and a condensing coil are mounted to the first major surface which faces a first direction. The flanges may also extend in the first direction. The second major surface may be substantially free of projections and define a bearing surface for the condensing unit. The motor of the compressor may have a main shaft which extends substantially parallel to the first major surface. The compressor may be a rotary compressor. There may be a conduit in fluid communication with the compressor and condensing coil and define together therewith a fluid circuit. Valves rotatably mounted on brackets and in fluid communication with the fluid circuit and operably couplable to an evaporator circuit may also be provided.
