An upstream facing port device (UFP device) and a downstream facing port device (DFP device) allow a host device and a USB device to conduct SuperSpeed communication via a non-USB compliant extension medium. In some embodiments, the UFP device helps overcome increased latency by generating synthetic packets to be transmitted to the DFP device in order to pre-fetch more data packets from the USB device than requested by the host device. In some embodiments, the DFP device adjusts service interval timing or caches data packets from the host device in order to compensate for the increased latency. In some embodiments, the DFP device transmits a synthetic acknowledgement packet to the UFP device to indicate a larger amount of free buffer space than is present on the USB device to help overcome the increased latency.

Methods and devices for extending USB 3.0-compliant communication over an extension medium

In some embodiments, an upstream facing port device (UFP device) is connected to a DisplayPort source device via a connection that complies with the DisplayPort specifications. A downstream facing port device (DFP device) is connected to a DisplayPort sink device via a connection that complies with the DisplayPort specifications. The UFP device and the DFP device are connected via an extension medium to allow the DisplayPort source device to provide video and/or audio for presentation by the DisplayPort sink device. In some embodiments, the UFP device and/or the DFP device may be configured to provide video extracted from the DisplayPort communication to an external video processing device for processing before and/or after transmission over the extension medium.

Devices and methods for bridging video information over an extension medium

Boardroom table systems are provided that include a plurality of USB Type-C receptacles that can provide power and/or data transfer functionality to one or more devices attached thereto. Power transferred by the boardroom table system may be managed by USB Power Delivery, and may come from a source of wall power, or from a device coupled to one of the USB Type-C receptacles. Data transferred by the boardroom table system may include USB data, Ethernet data, video data, and/or any other type of data transmittable via a USB Type-C receptacle. In some embodiments, boardroom table systems also include presentation devices. In such embodiments, a device coupled to a USB Type-C receptacle could both transmit or receive power, exchange data, and transmit video to the presentation device via the same USB Type-C receptacle of the boardroom table system, thus eliminating the need for multiple sockets and cables.

Extension devices such as upstream facing port devices (UFP devices) and downstream facing port devices (DFP devices) connect via an extension medium. When a UFP device and a DFP device pair with each other, DisplayPort video and/or audio information from a DisplayPort source device can be presented by a DisplayPort sink device, which are coupled to the UFP device and DFP device, respectively. In some embodiments, the DFP device may train a DisplayPort link to the DisplayPort sink device regardless of whether it is receiving actual data from a UFP device, and may provide placeholder data to the DisplayPort sink device in order to keep the link active. The DFP device may then replace the placeholder data with the actual data from the UFP device, once received, and may thereby seamlessly switch the DisplayPort sink device from presenting placeholder data to presenting data from the DisplayPort source device.

Methods and devices for extending USB 3.0&#x2014;compliant communication over an extension medium

Techniques for supporting USB and video communication over an extension medium are provided. In some embodiments, an upstream facing port device (UFP device) is coupled to legacy connectors of a host device, and a downstream facing port device (DFP device) is coupled to a USB Type-C receptacle of the sink device that may provide both USB and DisplayPort information. The UFP device and DFP device communicate to properly configure the USB Type-C connection for use in the extension environment. In some embodiments, a source device is coupled to the UFP device via a USB Type-C connection, and legacy video and USB devices are coupled to the DFP device. The UFP device and DFP device again communicate to cause the source device to properly configure the USB Type-C connection for use in the extension environment.

Systems and methods for enabling communication between USB type-C connections and legacy connections over an extension medium

Devices, systems, and methods for selectively pairing an upstream facing USB port device (UFP device) and a downstream facing USB port device (DFP device) over a network are disclosed. A controller device sends pairing commands to a selected UFP device and a selected DFP device, which then establish a connection with each other over a network. The controller device may subsequently cause the UFP device and/or the DFP device to remove the existing pairing and to instead pair with a different UFP device or DFP device. A pairing between a UFP device and a DFP device allows a host device coupled to the UFP device and a USB device coupled to the DFP device to communicate via a USB-compatible protocol.

Systems for enhancing boardroom tables to include USB Type-C power and connectivity functionality

Embodiments of the present disclosure provide systems and/or methods for managing power distribution over a USB topology. In some embodiments, a host device is coupled to an upstream facing port device (UFP device) via a USB compliant connection, and a USB device is coupled to a downstream facing port device (DFP device) via a USB compliant connection. The UFP device and DFP device are connected via a non-USB compliant extension medium. In various embodiments, the UFP device and DFP device may be individually powered by different types of sources (such as external power sources, power distributed over the extension medium, batteries, USB bus power, and/or the like). The UFP device and DFP device cooperate to provide USB power distribution functionality throughout the USB topology despite the presence of the non-USB compliant extension medium.

Systems and methods for managing USB power delivery

In some embodiments, the present disclosure provides techniques for concurrently exchanging USB 2.0 information, SuperSpeed information, and four lanes of DisplayPort information via a single USB Type-C connection. In some embodiments, this may be accomplished in part by multiplexing signals such as the USB 2.0 signals and the DisplayPort AUX signal to fewer than a standard number of conductors in order to free up other conductors for the third and fourth lanes of DisplayPort information. In some embodiments, a standard USB Type-C receptacle, plug, and cable are used. In some embodiments, a modified receptacle, plug, and/or cable are provided.

Devices and methods for providing concurrent superspeed communication and four-lane displayport communication via a USB type-C receptacle

In some embodiments, the present disclosure provides techniques for reducing an amount of bandwidth used for the communication of DisplayPort information via a USB Type-C receptacle. In some embodiments, this reduction in bandwidth allows for the concurrent exchange of USB 2.0 information, SuperSpeed information, and four lanes of DisplayPort information via a single USB Type-C receptacle. In some embodiments, this may be accomplished in part by processing the information from the four DisplayPort lanes to be transmittable via two differential pairs of the USB Type-C connection, thereby providing four lanes of DisplayPort communication over the USB Type-C connection concurrently with SuperSpeed information. In some embodiments, the reduction in bandwidth of the DisplayPort information may be used for other purposes, such as transmitting high bandwidth DisplayPort information over a cable or connector of a low quality that would otherwise not support such an exchange.
